The Mohun Bagan SAIL Football Academy (MBSFA), West Bengal, better known as MBSFA, is a very well-known institute which provides training to budding footballers. Established in 2003, it was set up by the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club in collaboration with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). Location of MBSFA: The academy is not located in the city of Kolkata, but at Durgapur which is a little over 180kms. from Kolkata.
The MBSFA is a training platform for those wishing to play football on a professional level. Youngsters who train here play in the local tournaments and are then included in the professional football leagues in India in a manner similar to what is achieved through football training programs abroad.
The training at MBSFA involves both theoretical and practical aspects of the sport. The trainee's psychological and overall development is also part of the training program.
Aspects of the training program include:
1. Individual, group and team training
2. Classroom theoretical training
3. Consultation with experts in the field of Sports Medicine
4. Physiotherapy
5. Medical Analysis
6. Monitoring growth through endurance tests, stress tests, etc.
7. Computer training in batches
8. English, Hindi and Maths classes
9. Schooling at DSP schools if required

Aspiring football players cannot simply fill an application form for admission to MBSFA! Generally, scouts from the Academy attend various football tournaments to identify talent. The ones selected are then grouped into 2, on the basis of age, with up to 25 players in each group.
Group A: Age 15 years to below 17 years.
Group B: Age 17 years to below 19 years.
The Academy also conducts a national level selection camp at different zones of the country. Dates and schedules of the camps are provided at the official website of the Academy (see link at the end of this article).
These players become football cadets at the academy and have to strictly follow the training schedule. Other than a fixed time for certain aspects of the training program, there is also a floating schedule which could include working out at the gym, swimming, yoga, etc.
