Red ribbon express, first flagged off on November 1st, 2007, at New Delhi, has travelled more than 27,000 km covering 166 districts and more than 50,000 villages across the country in the first phase, reaching out to crores of people. In the second phase, the Red Ribbon Express is traversing across India again. It was flagged off on December 1, 2009, from New Delhi for the

Hundreds of college students thronged the Central Railway station here on Thursday to take a glimpse of the Red Ribbon Express
the train, which has seven AC coaches has been stationed on platform no 11. It will be open for public between 10 am and 6 pm till April 2. Hopping on to the first coach, they walked through an exhibition of bio-medical aspects of HIV/AIDS, with an interactive touch screen on display. The second and third compartments focused on support treatment and stigma on HIV, while the fourth had information on communicable diseases and general health.In Fifth compartment general publich containing a 60 member crew will have consultation programmes regarding awareness on Aids.In sixth copmpartment there a 4 consultants 2 doctors forming a 6+ member crew give consultations on STD(Sexually Transmitted Dieases) and wounds on the private parts.In 7th compartment contains official crew members, doctors,consultants,and members from different association acting for awareness of AIDS...Red ribbon express inauguration function
At the inauguration of the Red Ribbon Express, Health Minister M R K Paneerselvam said that Tamil Nadu had responded overwhelmingly to the initiative. "As many as 16,951 people visited the train at Vriddhachalam, followed by 16,498 at Kancheepuram, 16,116 in Rameswaram and 15,216 at Nagercoil. It may even reach over a lakh in Chennai," he said, adding that the train had covered nine districts in the State. The train, which began its journey on December 1 last year, will halt in 152 stations at 141 districts in
the country, carrying out programmes and activities in around 10, 000 villages.
