Ramanujar temple is one of ancient, prehistoric temples in India situated at Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram district which is nearly 55kms away from metropolitan city Chennai. Sriperumbudur is the birth place of famous vaishnavist, Sri Ramanujar. Ramanujar is one of the famous devotee of Lord Vishnu and he given his life to spead vaishnavam on behalf of Lord Vishnu.

Sriperumbudur is the birth place of famous vaishnavist, Sri Ramanujar. Ramanujar is the follower of Lord Vishnu and Ramanujar devoted his life to Vishnu. Ramanuja was born on 1017 AD on twelfth day of Tamil month Chithirai with the star of Thiruvadhirai. Ramanuja's birthday is celebrated as a very grand festival in Sriperumbudur each and every year. It is a 10 days utsav.

Architecture of Ramanujar temple


Ramanujar temple has a very tallest Rajagopuram with Adhikesava perumal and yethirajavalli thayar. Both mulavar and urchaver are present in the same place. The temple entrance hall is jam-packed and at the entry there is a patio signals which is the preceding night's deluge. This is considered as one of the place of workship and pilgrimage with a smiling Adhikesava Perumal sanadhi with his companions Sridevi and Boodevi who provides her plentiful elegance towards their devotees. The right side of the temple Sri Ramanujar presents in a very boldly way. Each and every prayer made at Sri Ramanuja's sanadhi, definitely there is a powerful answer to that prayer. To the left thayar sanadhi is present named Yethirajavalli thayar. This is the one and only temple where the name of the thayar attributed to God. She is called as Varaprasadi meaning who satisfies the need of all human beings. Ramanuja temple has a golden vimanam in which Ramanuja's image was engraved. This is the first temple in south India which erected golden vimanam in the year 1912.

Apart from Perumal and thayar sanadhi, there is a beautiful garden inside which is the place where the great saint Sri Ramanujar born. By the blessings of Lord Vishnu Sri Ramanujar got so many powers and he realized his birth nature in this world and he started spiritual speech to the human beings. People are so impressed by his speech; they want Ramanuja to be present in Sriperumbudur itself. But due to some circumstances Ramanujar was in a situation to go Srirangam as per the instructions from Lord Vishnu. But people wants him to be back to Sriperumbudur, Ramanuja told the people that to create a idol like him and you keep in the temple until he arrival and unfortunately Ramanujar left Srirangam itself. Hence Sriperumbur Ramanujar temple is called as than ugantha thirumeni and Srirangam Ranganathar temple is called thamar ugantha thirumeni.

Festivals in Ramanujar Temple


The Ramanujar idol in Ramanujar temple is very powerful and being work shipped here will give all benefits including Moksha. Ramanuja is called and workshipped as "Swamy'. On the festival day, the Ramanuja's idol is jewelled, clothed in sparkling ceremonial dress and hauling a weapon, representative Ramanuja's grade as the king of saints. The idol is bringing to the backyard after the outing in the temple car in the morning. Before the "Thirumanjanam", the jewels and robes are detached and the idol can be seen in all its unique magnificence. It is very difficult to find words to describe the countenance and the form of the great saint. His backside is fashioned like a hooded serpent, sparkle and animated as he was the incarnation of Adisesha. People eagerly wait to see the Thirumanjanam and the pushpa pallakku that follows. Devotee from all over the world has come to see and serve up the lord.

There are so many buses available from Kanchipuram and they may stop at the entrance of the temple. Buses also available form Koyambedu. Any one can find out buses frequently to Sriperumbudur in and around Chennai.
