Tamilnadu Electricity Tariff Hike details
Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has made it clear to public that the tariff hike is only to rescue from the debts incurred by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB).It has announced as new Electricity Tariff rates on 30 2012 (Friday) and effecting from April 1 2012 (Sunday).
Tamil Nadu Electric Tariff Hike
The Tamil Nadu has hiked power cost to free the debt-ridden Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) according to news sources. It's said that there is an estimated Rs.29, 347 crore revenue, and the hike to the public caused is 37 per cent. While prevalence of power cut in Chennai varies two hours, and that semi urban, and rural locales suffer eight hours semi-dark days, and there is cry and chaos almost all sectors such as commerce (all kinds of commercial activities), industries (small, medium, large), agriculture, educational, and most importantly from domestic sectors where the freebies lie idle most part of time for want of power. The revised tariff is in different slabs.
The tariff hike is effective from April 1 2012 (Sunday) and the day is globally celebrated as fools' day.
Electricity minister Natham R Viswanathan has said that even after this hike, the board would continue to remain a loss-making unit. Further he contending with the hike said that the State Energy Regulatory Commission was a statutory body and the State had no say in its decision. He believed the decision was from TNERC which struggled the losses incurred on transmission and distribution. [Reference: TOI]
Apart from this initiative of Tamilnadu government there are also steps taken in order to solve the power issues in Tamilnadu. The new power plant work is started and is expected to help people by providing the expected power for all the places in Tamilnadu. The government promises that this new power plant will definitely be a good alternative for the people of Tamilnadu and Chennai to get continuous power supply.
New Electric consumer tariff applicable in Tamil Nadu effective from April 01,2012:
Domestic New Electricity Tariff Rates:
Up to 100 Units - Rs. 1.10 per unit (+Fixed Charge Rs. 10)
101 to 200 units - Rs. 1.80 per unit
201 to 250 units - Rs. 3 per unit
251 to 500 units - Rs. 3.50 per unit
Above 500 units Rates are as follows
Upto 200 units - Rs. 3 per unit
201 to 500 units - Rs. 4 per unit
501 and above units - Rs. 5.75 per unit
Industries New Rate:
Rs. 5.50 per unit
Commercial Establishments:
Rs. 4.30 per unit up to 100 units
Rs. 7 per unit above 100 units
Temples:
Rs. 2.50 per unit up to 120 units
Rs. 5 per unit above 120 units
Private Schools, Colleges - Rs. 5 per unit
Government and Govt-Aided Schools - Rs. 4.50 per unit
For Decorative Lamps - Rs. 10.50 per unit
