SVNIT, Surat is one of the NITs (National Institute of Technology) of India and is a joint venture of Government of Gujarat and Government of India. NITs are one of the important engineering colleges after IITs (Indian Institute of Technology). SVNIT which were called SVRCET (Sardar Vallabhabhai Regional college of Engineering and Technology) was given national importance in 2002 and it is also renamed to Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology. SVNIT is among the top 40 ranked college in India as per report by OUTLOOK India.
History of SVNIT (Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology)
In year 1961, SVRCET formed and initially it was given permission to run only graduation courses but later it is given post graduation and doctorate courses. Initially it only three main under graduation courses run by SVRCET which were Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering but in academic year 1983-1984, Electronics engineering were added as under graduation course, in 1988-1989 production engineering and computer engineering were added, in 1995-1996 chemical engineering was added as undergraduate course but later on, many courses were added in master and doctorate courses.Facilities at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology
SVNIT campus is equipped with SBI Bank, Post Office,Canteen, 3 ATMs, Anchor Institute for alliance between industries and academics, 12 Mega hostels with more than 750 capacity and one family hostel including 12 hostels. SVNIT campus is also having dispensary, Guest house, Day Care Center and Security system. Campus is fully equipped with LAN and WiFi internet facility with 100 MPBS speed. Each department and hostel is equipped with LAN and WiFi internet facility. Central library is provided with latest books and online science journals with online and offline contents. Each department is having their own laboratory facilities to do experiments related to theory taught in lecture. Gym facility and sports centre is among the best choice for students where mass is gathered in morning and evening. SVNIT evaluates student academics performance by CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and exam pattern at SVNIT is addition of Mid semester examination 30 Marks, end semester examination with 50 Marks and Internal Marks 20 Marks.
Thus subject is evaluated in 100 Marks. Based on the total marks obtained by student is divided into some appropriate group to select grade like AA, AB, BB, BC etc. The grade of each subject decides CGPA and SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average). SGPA evaluates only semester's performance but CGPA evaluates all the subjects till the declaration of result. B. Tech Admission Process at SVNIT
B. Tech admission process is done based on the AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam) rank. 50-50 ratio is given for Gujarat students and outstates students. Complete procedure is based on AIEEE score only.
M. Tech Admission Process at SVNIT
M. Tech admission is based on GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) score and graduation marks. In case of large candidates, written test is conducted to short list the students who are non GATE candidates. First preference is given to only GATE and rest. Even sponsored students by academics and industries are also eligible to get admission in M. Tech based on sponsored category rules. M. Tech GATE students are eligible to get Rs. 8000/- as stipend/scholarship by MHRD of India.
Ph. D Admission Process at SVNIT
