Sunder Nagar - A Beautiful Town

Sunder Nagar, formerly known as Suket Riasat is a beautiful town in Mandi District of Himachal Pradesh. This Beautiful town is situated on National Highway 21 (Chandigarh-Manali Highway). The name Suket comes from the name of Great Shukdev Rishi. The state of Suket was found by Bir Sen who was an ancestor of Sen Dynasty OF Bengal.

As a tourist place, Sunder Nagar is very nice place to visit for its beautiful places. There are many tourist attractions in Sunder Nagar like Sunder Nagar Lake, Mahamaya Temple, Mata Murari Devi Temple, Sukdev Vatika, Hateshwari Temple, Jangam Baag & Sheetala Mata Temple. All places are very famous for their natural beauty. Every year many tourists visit Sunder Nagar as it is on the way to Manali, so they stops by and enjoy the awesomeness of this beautiful town.

Mahamaya Temple is located on the top of a hill near the town from where one can see the panoramic beauty of the town. This temple is on the way of Sunder Nagar to Maloh-Nalni villages.

Murari Devi Temple is located at a hilltop named Murari Dhar in the west of Sunder Nagar and is the most famous tourist spot of the town. There is a road to the temple from Sunder Nagar via Leda but there are no buses available on this route. There is an alternative bus route from Sunder Nagar to Trifalghat via Swahraghat village.

The distance of Swahraghat from Sunder Nagar is 18 KM through road. From Swahraghat, visitors have to walk upward on a footpath which is about 2 KMs. Many Buses are available on this route from Sunder Nagar. Sunder Nagar Lake is basically a reservoir of Bhakhra Setluj Link (BSL)Project. This lake is the real beauty of Sunder Nagar. At the evening time most of the people come by lake side to get peace of mind after daily working stresses.

Sukdev Watika is situated near Sunder Nagar Lake & Bus Stand. Rishi Shukdev meditated here due to which this Garden is named as Shukdev Vatika and the town was also named as Suket formerly.

Hateshwari Temple is situated at Sunder Nagar to Baggi Road. This temple is related to Pandwas and their signs can be traced here.

Sheetala Mata Temple is located at Bahun Katli Village which is about 1 mile away from Sunder Nagar Lake. This temple is devoted to Mata Sheetala. A broadcasting tower of Doordarshan is set up near the temple by Prasar Bharati.
