I fully agree that child marriage is a curse for the society. It is also to be understood that comparatively its intensity has come down but it is still there in our society. There are many reasons for it but one thing is very clear that if Govt takes it seriously and punishes the offenders then it would finish and disappear from our locales. Today the punishment is almost nil. Until and unless there is a fear of punishment in the minds of people nothing good can be achieved.
Another important thing is that some goons and evil elements are after this because of vested interests. They are to be nabbed by the Govt.
Recently in Assam State the Govt has taken a big step in this directions and that would bring some fear in the minds of people who are facilitating these child marriages.

While it is good to see that the Govt. of Assam has come down heavily on those who have married minors, it is important that the Govt. also takes steps to ensure that these minors are not neglected. They should collaborate with NGOs on the ground level, and provide facilities for food, education and health, as these minors were wholly dependent on their husbands for an income. With their husbands arrested, how will they survive?

Child marriages are not acceptable. A child never understands what is a marriage. In some communities very old men marry very young girls. The age differences will be very huge and the girl will suffer a lot in the company of her husband. That is why child marriages are banned. But in some areas still such practices are in force. The local authorities should see that such will not happen. After marriage if the couples are separated, it will become very difficult for the girl to manage. Generally such marriages will happen in poor families only where the parents will take money from the boy and perform the marriage.
