Marina Beach in Chennai
Marina beach is one of the most famous beaches in India , which is located in the city of Chennai. The beach starts from Fort St.George in the north and comes to an end in bezant nagar in the south it almost runs over a distance of 14 kilometers. And the marina is considered to the longest urban beaches in India. This beach resembles juhu beach in Mumbai which s also partly sandy, and very deep. The width of this beach stretch upto 437 meters. And this beach connects Fort St george with San thome Basilica which is situated at a distance of 5 km from marina, was built by Mounstuart Elphinstone grant – druff, who was the governer between 1881 – 1886. Most of the people come here to enjoy their time and avoid the sun. And their will lots of people coming around there and it will a great rush during the holidays , festival days.
Attractions in Chennai Marina Beach
Coming along the road side of marina we may find many statues , they include the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Kannagi, Thiruvalluvar, Sir Thomas Munaro, Kamarajar, Avvaiyar , Thantai periyar , and the Statue of Labour. And there are many shops in the beach which can be enjoyed by the kids such as Ballon shooting shops , kite shops , and Horse riding. And one can also enjoy the eatables which are sold in the beach such as ice cream , chat items and many more shops. Monuments and Structures in Marina Beach
First the journey along the beach starts from the Victory War Memorial , which is situated in the north of kamarajar salai. This memorial was orginall built to show the victory of the armies in the World War I and later it was dedicated to the army mens of Chennai presidency who lost their lifes in World War II.
Walking towards the south of kamarajar salai we can find Anna Samadhi, a memorial which was built in the honour of CN Annadurai , Former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, who introduced the political and social reforms in this state.
And walking further to south , we may find MGR Samadhi a commemorative garden which is built with gateways and fine pathways, which is built in the honour of popular tamil film star and chief minister MG Ramachandran.
And facing the marina we can find the Vivekananda house also known as ice house, where swami vivekanandar stayed for nine days during thr period of 1897. Amd this house always hosts the art exhibits about his life and mission of swami vivekanandar . Other Famous Structures in Marina Beach
