The hospital was established for the Ministry of Healing, its first unit relating to cardiac care in June 1987 in the hired premises of another hospital in the Mecca of Health Care in India–Chennai. In a short period of time the Madras Medical Mission moved in 1995 to its own building at Mogappair, a residential area in the Chennai city. Under the patronage of Mother Theresa, was inaugurated and opened for the service of people. It provides an International Health Care Provider, for Adult/Pediatric Cardiac care, Reproductive Medicine, Liver & Digestive diseases, Kidney and Multi-Organ transplantation. The MMM hospital in Chennai has super infrastructure, leading technology, supported by a team of experienced specialists, nurses and paramedical staff. It has more than 256 beds, 5 operation theaters for Institute of Cardio Vascular disease. The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is 16-bedded with all Cardio vascular emergencies. The Institute of Reproductive medicine and Women's Health is fully equipped for the treatment of women. The Institute of Liver, Digestive diseases, Kidney and Organ Transplant with twin operation theaters is well equipped to handle any major surgery. Other facilities available are well - equipped Dialysis unit, Endoscopy Unit & Digital Imaging unit.
The Institute of Liver, Digestive diseases, Kidney and Organ Transplant also has a very active Multi-Organ Transplant program, one of a kind in India , performing kidney, liver, pancreas and small bowel transplantation.
