It was started in honor of great Industrialist B.M. Birla. This is one of the largest planetarium in India and there are two other planetarium was built in Kolkata and Hyderabad. The planetarium is situated inside the Periyar Science And Technology Center in Kotturpuam. The planetarium provides informations about Physics, science technologies, Energy, Life sciences, Materials Science, with many exhibitions.Shows And Exhibitions:
The planetarium contains information about science and technology from 1988 to till today updating the technology of space science. The planetarium contains portraits of Sunitha Williams, Kalpana Chawla and Neil Armstrong provided to them in donation by USA.
The sky theater is a thrilling adventure for everyone. It has a huge inside hemisphere shaped doom to provide us information how the space formed to planets formed and more stuffs. Lying down in the chair and seeing the space, stars and planets inside a dark room brings us the feeling we are in a space like a space man/ woman. We can have a fun filled knowledgeable tour. The planetarium is surrounded by modernized projectors to make the shows prominent and entertaining. The view is provided in an angle of 360 degrees. The planetarium has been renovated and added many new features. The cost of money spent for this is around million rupees. The planetarium was supported by the government of India and funds are allocated by the government for the planetarium to add and make it up to the modern taste.
Various other exhibitions are also conducted in the planetarium specializing many new things and activities. Many school children with their teachers are bought to this planetarium to have an educational tour's and also to enjoy the exhibitions. They conduct

Sky shows provides informations about the moon,meteoroids,sun,space,galaxy etc.
Audi- Visual shows are provided with very knowledgeable stuffs. The theme is changed every three months to make everyone entertained.
Night shows are conducted only during second Saturday's of every month from 7pm-8pm.
Specially night shows are conducted so to watch you have to contact the planetarium staffs.
The planetarium conducts shows in different languages in different timings for the convenience of people. The ticket rates are very cheap to enjoy the shows. Special night shows and lot more were also conducted. The eclipse and many naturally occurring events of planets coming nearby, stars and eclipse everything can be seen close and visible in this planetarium.
