Once this road was used for the connection between Pondicherry and Chennai. The old Mahabalipuram road was connecting Mahabalipuram with the East Coastal road. The IT Corridor Project was the first initiative of Tamil Nadu Government to develop the IT Corridor as a high quality facility and to grant an active and IT/ITES new pictures of Tamil Nadu. TNRDC implemented the new project of promoting the motorway with IT / ITES companies and also with the good transportation. TNRDC initiated the IT Expressway Ltd to promote all the vehicles in OMR. Once the OMR was implemented, the rates of the land in the OMR had increased gradually in a very high scale. The people in Chennai started to habitat in the OMR once the road was implemented. Many schools and colleges were occupied in the Old Mahabalipuram Road once it was implemented. Though the construction had delayed due to bad weather and climate, the roadside habituates are not less in number to occupy the places in OMR.
