Ritchie Street- Place for Electronic Items
In this article, I am going to share about one of the biggest electronic street in Chennai. It was Ritchie Street. It has more number of shops contains only electronic items. People from all over chennai were approaching this area most. That became the biggest plus point for the Ritchie Street and its success.
Ritchie Street was started with few shops in 1970. In that period Chennai was called as Madras. In Anna Salai, near Mount Road this Ritchie Street was started with few workers. Those shops contain all electronic materials. All the electronic components were established for dealing with electronic spare parts and assembling components. All the people were started to approach this Ritchie Street. Nearly 30 number of shops occurred within 5 years of period. All over TamilNadu, people from different areas were approaching this Ritchie Street for purchasing all sort of electronic materials.
All sort of goods started import from different countries over here. Especially countries like China items and Korean items are more attractive products in this Street. People are attracted by the low rates for the materials. This Ritchie Street expands from Narasingapuram Street and Waller's Road in Anna Salai. The Street full of crowds is always highlighted in this area. There were only single line spaces of road having lot of peoples walking all over the Street. Even two wheelers were parked in the street.
Ritchie Street is also known by the name Radio Market. It contains sales of products like Televisions, Radio, Laptop, Mobile Phones, Computers, Pendrive, etc. Ritchie Street achieved as India's second largest electronic market for computer spare parts and assembling components. At present more than 900 shops are there in Ritchie Street.
This achievement came in beginning. The sales taxes were reduced upto 10% fixed by the government. From North India, there occurred biggest demand on electronic goods. They started to concentrate on building number of shops in Ritchie Street. This was the achievement made to reach second's largest electronic market in India. The street was spread over few areas. They were Ritchie Street, Meeran Sahib Street and Waller's Road. All these three streets were joined and called as Ritchie Street.
For people's convenience State Bank of India provides its ATM in Ritchie Street. People who are visiting Ritchie Street can also collect money in this ATM by using their credit cards. They need not to search ATM's outside the street. One of the big troubles in Ritchie Street is parking. Parking the vehicles near Ritchie Street is terrific thing to suffer. It is all about people's crowd and the place which has insufficient space to walk. This was one of the disadvantages in Ritchie Street.
Taking young childrens to Ritchie Street for purchase is more problematic. It is because the place which has full of crowd. Ritchie Street is not only deals with the electronic goods, this tiny street has fruit stalls, food shops, small tea stalls are also situated. There was one vegetarian hotel called hotel Geetha is situated in the Ritchie Street. Security Service
There were lot of people visiting in a day. Nearly more than 1000 people arriving newly to the street. When shops and people are increased security must me tightened. Police cops were allotted for the security service. They allotted more than 42 CCTV cameras have be fixed in every corner of the street.
