Dr. Nithyasree Mahadevan, who is a highly popular and a well known person in the Carnatic field who is also called as S.Nithyashri, is a prominent and most popular carnatic musician and also she has sung various language songs in various film industries as a very popular play back singer. Nithyashree's is very popular with the help of her paternal grandmother D.K.Pattamal and her grand uncle D.K.Jayaraman who were prominent carnatic vocalists and were established disciples of Ambi Dikshithar, Pananasam Sivan, Muthiah Bhagavathar and others. Nithyashree's maternal grandfather was a highly prominent and well known Mridangam maestro named Palghad Mani Iyer. Musically she was brought up in such a way that it was only music and always music that she could do in all her ages of life. This was the only success mantra she could follow and make her career and profession as music.
Nithyashree has performed in all major Sabhas in India and has presented concerts in many destinations worldwide. For all her passion towards music and the effort that she had put over music has fetched her many awards and honors concerned with music. She has released over 100 commercial albums. Nithyashree was born on the 25th of August in the year 1973 to Lalitha Siva Kumar and I. Siva Kumar. She was born into a family of musicians and rather did not feel hard to get along with music apart from being passionate about carnatic music. Her mother, Lalitha Siva Kumar was her first Guru and learnt carnatic music from her mother initially and later she became a devoted disciple of D K Pattamal – her grandmother. She always would accompany her grandmother's concerts and thereby made her stage a usual place to get it. Nithyashree's father is an accomplished mridangist and disciple of Phalagat Mani Iyer, was would constantly show his support when it was the chance for Nithyashree to perform. It was all only music that she had to concentrate since her childhood life amidst the music oriented family. It was the musical 3rd generation that made Nithyashree in to the musical era.

Nithyashree gives her wonderful performance in various concerts and in music sabha all over India and also in various other places in the world. She got various music recognitions all over the world. Nithyashree's first performance was a pleasant carnatic performance at the Youth Association for classical music in the 10th of August in the year 1987. She was given numerous concerts in her later years where people always wanted some patriotic songs to be sung on the commemoration of the 50th year if Independence. She is also popular for singing Papanasam Sivam's composition in the Kutcheris which she was offered to sing having them learnt directly from the composer himself. Nithya has also delivered a guest lecture on “Papanasam Sivam – a legend" at the Coimbatore town for Manoranjitham. This made 2 thematic albums that solely contained his composition and have proned to be popular both online and offline. She even presented a paper on the Life and Contribution of Gopala Krishna Barathi for the music department of PSG College, Coimbatore. So, many lectures and talk outs regarding music have been given over by Nithyashree.
Nithyashree was introduced as a play back singer when A R Rahman called her to the Panchathan recording Inn in Kodambakkam, Chennai for a voice test in the late 1990s. the output of her visit and her voice test was taken over for a Shankar's movie called Jeans where she had to lend voices for Aishwarya Rai and Prashanth in a song called “Kannodu Kaanbadella Thalaiva" . this song in particular became popular which resulted in many songs in the same combos like “Minsara Kanna" for the K S Ravi Kumar film called Padayappa starring the super star Rajinikanth, Soundarya and Ramya Krishnan in the lead role. Other hits in the Tamil cine field were “Sowkiyama Kanne" for Sangamam and “Manmatha Maasam" for Parthale Paravasam and many more compositions like this.
Some of her other hit songs are “Kumbakonam Snadayile" for the film New starring S J Surya, Devayani and Simran in the lead role, “Oru Nadhi Oru Paurnami" from the film Samurai, “Kana Kangiren" for Anandha Thandavam as well as “Thai Thindra Manne" for Ayirathil Oruvan set to the tunes od G V Prakash. Nithya has performed for many other languages like Telugu and Kannada play back singing industry with songs such as “Ra Ra…" from the film Apthamitra. • She is an All India Radio Prize winner in the year 1990 and has been graded with the ‘A' grade.
• Nithya has been awarded the “Yuva Kala Bharathu" title by Bharath Kalachar in the year 1994.
• The title “Innisai Mamani" was conferred over the Tamil Nadu welfare association by Hamsadhwani in the year 2000.
• “Isai Peroli" form the Karthik Fine arts club in the year 2001.
• She has also been conffered with many prestigious awards like “Padhma Sadhana in the year 2004, “Naada Kovida in the year 2006.
• Recipient of the “best concert award" from the The Music Academy during the music festival a couple of times and also performed for the “Sangeetha Natak Academy" twice in promising artiste from Mohanam music club and made a thematic album of compositions popularizing the raga – Mohanam. She was awraded a doctorate degree from the Sathyabama University of Jeppair in the year 2007 recently.
