Mano, an Indian playback singer has always been one among the best voices in many Indian languages like Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Apart from singing songs, he has also been a chunk of voice dubbing of many leading heroes in the industry like Kamal haasan. Mano was born in a Muslim family and his original name before entering into the industry was Nagoor Babu. After his entry into the industry he was rechristened as Mano by Illayaraja. Though a muslim by birth, his interest in carnatic music was enormous wherein this made him learnt carnatic music from Nedanuri Krishnamoorthy. Making him well versed in carnatic music, added a greater opportunity for him to enter into the film industry.
From his child hood days he showed interest to music and this made him very good in the carnatic music and also the normal singing. His voice was also very much comfortable for making him shine throughout his career. Mano's career started as an artist in various stage plays. Indeed, he had made his debut in more than 15 films in the Telugu industry. Some of the films in Telugu that casted mano were Rangoon, Riwdy, Kethu Gadda etc. His chance as a playback singer in the film industry happened to be an accident in the year 1979, where S.P.Balasubramaniam was supposed to lend voice for him. On the occasion of waiting for S.P.B; the music director M.S.Viswanathan's assistant asked Mano to sing. Hence, mano sang to a few ghazals that made the audience appreciate him as well. No wonder the music director – M.S.V was impressed with his voice and called him to Chennai for a voice audition. After completing the Telugu movie, he discontinued his studies and worked with M.S.V for 2 and half years as his assistant.
He shot to fame with the super hit movie, Enga ooru pattukaaran for which he sang the song – “shenbagame". This one song made him into limelight. This was not the only song that made him high; there are few other songs too that gave him a super duper hit. Songs that were included in his hit list were “mukabala" for the movie khadala; “thilaana" from the movie Muthu; “Azhagiya laila" for the film Ullatthai alli thaa.
In the year 1982, mano ended up working as an assistant with a Telugu music director – Chakravarthy to introduce his brother as a Tabla player. As a music assistant, Mano rendered the dummy versions of the song that were about to be mixed for the day. A couple of years later, he got a chance to work with S.P.B and Susheela for the film Karpoora Deepam as a third violist. Later, he sang for a Kannada movie for the music director Hamsalekha in the year 1985. A year after, he sang for Illayaraja for the movie – Poovizhi Vasalile (enga anne) and a another hit – madura marikozhilndu vaasam and a couple of songs for the movie Velaikaaran.
