Deepa Miriam is a budding Indian play back singer in the recent times who has her major contributions in the south Indian film industry. Her first debut film was Naan Avan Illai and she came into limelight and shot fame with the Tamil film Subramaniyapuram for the song “Kangal irandal" composed by the juvenile musician James Vasanthan. Among various emerging playback singers Deepa holds a great position and there are many opportunity rising for Deepa Miriam. First she started her music carrier as the Carnatic singer by singing carnatic music and later on she made herself flexible to sing various types of songs for the film industries as well. Though an Indian, Deepa was born and brought up in the Unites Arab Emirates (U.A.E). Her family belonged to the Christian community of the Kerala state. Deepa completed her schooling in United Arab Emirates and began singing at a very early age. Even at the age of 7, her interest in music grew tremendously that she started leaning carnatic music at that very early age. When she was in her schooling days, he took part in many competitions and won the first place most of the times; this led to a good kick start to her career even before she knew that her profession would end up in play back singing. She stood first in many classical, semi – classical, light music competitions and performed many live shows and concerts with musicians from Kerala when she was at school. Deepa equally excelled in her academics apart from singing that she passed her 12th standard with distinction and good grades. At the age of 11, Deepa was named as the Best Child Singer in U.A.E after taking part in a competition “Gayiye aur Suniye" organized by Ras – al – Khaimah Radio.
She moved over to Kerala for her higher education to become a graduate in Engineering. She joined the Model Engineering College at Thrikkakra, Kerala for pursuing her Engineering at the department of Electronics and Telecommunication and successfully got her B.Tech Degree. In her studies she showed a great performance and also obtained her degree in a great manner. Apart from the carnatic music she also showed interest in the Hindustani Music and she got herself trained in the Hindustani music also. Along with the Hindustani music she also showed her interest towards the western music as well.
Deepa has received training in Hindustani music where she passed in a junior certificate course from Kerala University. Western music was also not a boundary for her for she passed 3 successive grades with honors for piano from the Trinity College, London. Deepa resided at Chicago and New Jersey (United States of America) for her master's degree after completing her under graduation in India and perhaps to get settled with a job in the same country. But the destiny and her urge towards singing brought her down to Chennai, India and to get settled here.

Deepa released her first debut album for Christian devotional songs which was named as “Viswasanthi". This release of Deepa turned out to be a super duper hit and the most highlighted issue of this release of this album was that – Deepa was only 12 years when she recorded for this album. This was a good start for Deepa; wherein she received lot many chances from various musicians to sing for their album. This opportunity made her sing for various albums in Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, English and Arabic languages. She has sung for more than 40 private albums.
Deepa was in the pep talk when she got a splendid opportunity to sing with K.J.Yesudas for a Christian devotional album called “Divya Hridayam" which was released in the year 2005.
Deepa's first entry into the film industry started with her first debut for the mvie – Naan Avan Illai. The song that she sang for the film was a peppy number indeed – “Then Kudicha Nilavu" starring Jeevan in the lead role. Since her first song, she got engaged with many projects in and around the film industry making herself busy with the leading music directors in the industry. Out of all her assigned projects, 5 songs have been released. Out of her recent releases, “Kangal Irundal" from the movie Subramaniyapuram was a tremendous and a massive hit in the whole of south India starring Jai and Swathi in the lead roles in the year 2008. This song of Deepa earned her many awards for the best female play back singer of the year and many more; this included citation among upcoming music directors in the field.
