Devan Ekambaram was born on December 25th in Freehold Borough, New Jersey. Devan is an Indian playback singer though he was born in the United States of America. Devan is also an actor and a film composer. Initially, he began his career in singing and later on mover to the subsequent fields in the cine industry where he indulged himself in acting and film composing. Tamil film industry made him the first chance for singing as a career after which he branched over to many other south Indian languages like Telugu and Kannada. He has almost sung for more than 150 songs. 
As a growing playback singer, Devan also got himself more familiar in various Tamil movies also. Apart from the playback singing he also acted in various Tamil movies. And also along with this Devan also stepped inside the music direction and composed music successfully for one film. The actual fact is that Devan is not from India. His early life was completely spent in the foreign country only and after his studies he came to India and became popular in the Tamil film industry. Devan after his schooling in at the Freehold Township High School, New Jersey, United States of America; he got himself graduated with an Engineering degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign. This made him spend half of his life as a Non Residential Indian.

Devan began his career as singing in the year 1999 when he received an unexpected call from the veteran music director, A.R.Rahman's assistant. He was called for a voice audition by his assistant, he made through the audition and this happened to be a chance made Devan to go in for a song in the movie Khadalar Dhinam where he sang the song “oh Mairya" along with Yugendran. This song of the couplet proved to be hit amongst the crowd; wherein this song made Devan gain fame in the Tamil cine industry. Fame always follows opportunities; and opportunities ultimately end up with success proved to be cent percent true in the case of Devan. Henceforth, he started receiving many offers from different languages appealing by various hike music directors in the cine industry.
Devan's musical hits were countless after his breathtaking performance for an awesome melody number that is to appear only for a few minutes on screen in the movie – Minnale, where he sang the song “Ore Gnaybagam". This song of Devan stole people's heart away with his soothing voice set to the tunes of Harris Jeyaraj. Thereafter, he sang many tracks for various popular music directors in the industry including Illayaraja, Vidya sagar, deva, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja. One of his recent popular numbers is “Anbil Avan" for the movie “Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya" where the music was composed by A.R.Rahman again who got him introduced to this industry of cinema.
