Introduction
Pench National Park, one of the outstanding National Reserve Forest of Madhya Pradesh, situated in the lower southern areas of Satpura Hills, named after the Pench river, flowing from north to south of Pench National Park.
Location
Seoni District of Southern Madhya Pradesh and spreads in continuation with Pench National Park in Maharashtra.
Transportation
Nagpur Air port & Railway Station (80 Km from Nagpur). Park can be accessed by road or rail. Nearest Railway Station is Ramtek. After that the communication is by road (35 Km from Ramtek).
Conservation History
Pench Sanctuary was declared in the year 1977 with an area of around 450 sq. km. In 1983 Government declared 292.85 sq. km. as Pench National Park. In 1992 Govt. of India declared 757.89 sq. km. including the national park and sanctuary as the 19th Tiger Reserve of the country. From 2002, Pench National Park is known as Indira Priyadarshini Pench National Park and Sanctuary is known as Mowgli Pench Sancturary.
Forest is mainly tropical moist deciduous forest, mostly with the tropical dry deciduous teak. Number of crisscrossed streams and 'nallahs' are found, most of which are seasonal. Though the Pench River dries up in April end, a number of water pools locally known as 'dohs' are found which serve as water holes for the wild animals. The Pench Reservoir at the center of the park is the only major water source during the pinch period.
Primary attractions
Tiger, Leopard, Jungle Cats. Leopard cats, small Indian civets and palm civets are common but seen rarely. Cheetal, Sambar, Nilgai are commonly seen on roadside and banks of river. Jackels can be seen anywhere, wild dogs of several types can be seen. Langoors are very common, whereas Rhesus monkeys are seen occasionally. More than 200 species of birds (including migratory) are also seen in sanctuary.
Flora & Fauna in Pench
The forest is spread in all the direction, and the type of forest is southern tropical dry deciduous teak and southern tropical mixed deciduous forest with other species of shrubs, trees and climbers. Teak and its associates i.e. mahua, skiras, bija, garari, amaltas, khair, palas, bamboos are scattered around.
The Pench National Park is very rich in fauna and a number of endangered species.

Park Timings
The Pench National Park is open to the visitors from October 01st to June 30th each year and closed during the rainy seasons (July- Sept.).
