This is the fifth edition of Vasantotsav. Another fact is that this musical festival is held every year in the memory of legendry Hindustani classical vocalist Vasantrao Deshpande. Niladri Kumar, the sitar player will present his signature "sitarfunk" on the last day of the musical festival while there will also be performances by Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Mishra from the Banaras Gharana. George Brooks is considered to be a leading American musician in Indian jazz fusion and is performing in Pune for the first time. For the upcoming Vasantotsav 2012 musical festival, Vasantotsav Awards instituted in memory of Dr Vasantrao Deshpande have been announced. The recipients of Vasantotsav 2012 Awards are Dr Arvind Thatte(famous harmonium player), Aneesh Pradhan(table player and music researcher) and Mayur Mahajan(vocalist). Dr Arvind Thatte and Aneesh Pradhan will receive Rs 51000 and a memento from PNG while Mayur Mahajan receives Rs 25000 and memento from White Copper Entertainment.
