Actually Holi was the name of thew sister of Hiranykashipu- the big devil on the earth and Prahlada was the son of Hiranykashipu who like to pray to the Lord Vishnu. Hiranykashipu do not like of the praying of his son because he was biggest devil of the earth and he was the enemy of Lord Vishnu because god and devil are the enemy of each other.
Hiranykashipu Try many times to stop his son for praying for the god and also told for praying for him because he was believed that he was the god of the earth, but in actual sense he was not!!
He also try many times to kill his son because he pray for the god but whenever he try to kill his son, the god coming to there and save the Prahalada, Because he was the follower of god and God will never let to any people to hurt their follower.
At last the sister of Hiranykashipu Holi came to kill the Prahalada and the god gave her promise that the fire will never touch her and give her one scarf (in Gujarati called Dupatta/Chundadi). There Hiranykashipu decided to burn the Prahalada on fire and Holi has to sit on fire taking Prahalad in her lap. Prahalada sit on her lap by murmuring the name of Lord Vishnu and Lord Vishnu saved him by placing the scarf on Prahalada by taking from the Holi so Holi was burnt but the Prahalada was alive in this incidence. So there was celebration of Holi and Dhuleti every year in the memory of the Prahalada and killing of holi means God wins on Devil.
People celebrates Holi by burning the big woods at the side of roads and they go round through it (in Gujarati called Pradakshina) and bow it and pray to god that as he saved Prahalada the lord will save us from every bad condition.
And people celebrate Dhuleti on the next day because the Prahalada was saved by god and in the memory of the great incidence People play Holi and dhuleti.
