It is an assumption among college students of Computer/IT engineering that there exists only one career option for their future - Programming/Code development. With this article, those in need would be introduced to several options they can opt for after completing their Computer/IT graduation studies. Kindly find below career options available for a Computer/IT student to opt for after graduation:
1. Developer/Programmer: This is the most common option taken up by an engineer after graduation mostly based on the projects developed during college years. This includes the role of a programmer in developing various codes for applications.
2. Test Engineer: The second most common field chosen by an engineer graduate after completing graduation is being a Test Engineer. This will not include code development but testing codes/application developed by a Programmer ideally through test cases though this will need thorough study of the application developed by the coder.
3. Project Manager: A project manager is the new age definition for managers; the one who manages timelines, resources and quality deliveries. This position will be achieved based on the experience and quality skill set of team leading, managing and problem solving capability.
4. Business Analyst: This is a lesser known emerging field these days. Business Analyst is the one who studies the market requirements, competitors and help improve the company in terms of external deliveries.
5. Data Research Team: Similar to a business analyst, the activity if a DR team is to study the current services and providing scope for new developments. Rather than studying the market, this includes analysis and study of current company product/services.
6. Technical Writer: If you have a sweet tooth towards writing, technical writing could be your field to chose. A technical writer is the one who performed all documentation including release notes, competitor studies, datasheets etc.
7. Sales: If you want to get away from your formal trend and also have the capability of convincing people, this could be your field. A sales person is the one who helps sell a product/service. This field can further be bifurcated into pre-sales, sales and post-sales team based on the companies.
8. Marketing: Marketing involves advertising the company product/services in the market. This can be performed through TV/Radio/Hoarding advertisements to marketing through internet.
9. Customer Support Engineer: Is the one who handles the customer after sale of product/services. This will include interaction with the sales team, development team and the project management.
Other than the above, with the skill set, these days graduates often opt for beginning their own firm or may opt for further studies. The generic cycle followed for product based industry is as below:
