About the temple
Shree Gnana Saraswati Temple is located in a small village named Basar in the Adilabad District of Andhra Pradesh. This small town which has become popular for the Saraswati Temple is situated on the banks of River Godavari and is located at a distance of 30 Km from Nizamabad. Sree Gnana Saraswati Temple is an ancient one and dates back to the time of Sage Veda Vyasa. As per the legendary of the temple, it is believed that Sage Veda Vyasa visited this place some time during the post Mahabharata period and Goddess Saraswati Devi appeared before this sage in the form of Trinity. Hence the small village got its name after this great Sage and came to be known as Vyasar which later changed to Basar over a period of time.
Though there are the deities of Hindu goddess Lakshmi Devi and goddess Kali, yet the main deity of the temple is Gnana Saraswati who is believed to give wisdom (gynan) to her devotees. How to reach Basara
Though Basar is a remotely located village yet due to the importance of the temple it is well connected through roadways and railways as well. However, the nearest airport is at the capital city of Hyderabad and Basar is situated at a distance of around 220 Km from the capital city. One can take either Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus or can take a private vehicle as well to reach this village.
Though the village has a railway station and there are trains from Secunderabad, Vijayawada and Guntakal as well, yet most of the pilgrims prefer the bus route which is the most convenient one to reach Basar. Accommodation at Basara temple
There is a good provision for accommodation at Basara temple. There are a good number of guest houses close to the temple with reasonably good comforts. There is even a guest house run by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams with AC and non-AC rooms. Besides these guest houses, there are few private hotels as well near the temple area.
For an advance booking of accommodation at these temple guest houses, you can write to the Executive Officer along with a Demand Draft for Rs.200 for non-AC rooms and Rs.500 for AC rooms drawn in favour of the Excutive officer, Gnana Saraswathi Devi Devastahnam payable at State Bank of Hyderabad - Basar, Andhra Pradesh.
