Bikaner is an important city of Rajasthan and perhaps it is most famous for its range of salted snacks. But there are some very nice tourist spots too in this city. Few of them are given below. 1. Junagarh fort
Junagarh fort is the main tourist attraction of Bikaner. It was built in year 1593 by Raja Rai singh who was a brave general in the army of Mughal emperor Akbar. The fort remains unconquerable for whole life as no one was able to win it from Rai Singh. The fort hoses many beautiful palaces like Anup Mahal, Ganga Niwas and Rang Mahal. There is also a chapel called Har Mandir which was used by royal families for worshiping their god. The fort is built by red sandstone and marble. There is also a museum in the fort which houses the history of the fort and Bikaner.
The fort remains open from 10 am to 4:30 pm. Fees for visiting full museum is Rs.50 whereas for visiting partly museum the fees is Rs.10 .Camera fees is Rs.30 whereas video camera fees is Rs.100.2. Lalgarh Palace
Lalgarh palace was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh in 1902 and is a great masterpiece of architecture. European architect Swinton Jacob designed the Lalgarh palace for Maharaja. This palace is a mixed culture of Rajputana, Mughal and European architecture. Whole palace is made of red sandstone like any other building in Bikaner. Both interior and exterior is beautifully designed and maintained. The palace is decorated with painting and trophies related to hunting. It has beautiful lawns and dancing peacocks which are a must see for those visiting Lalgarh Palace.3. Ganger Palace
Ganger palace was built by Maharaja Ganga Singh ji near a lake. The place is an oasis in Thar Desert. The place looks beautiful with its plants and animals. This place was used by royal families as summer retreat and hunting. This place was also used as guest house for the royal guest to show them the beautiful Ganger palace. The palace is surrounded by thick forest which was planted for the hunting purpose and gives a charming look to the palace. Devi Kund is situated 8 kilometers away from the main city. This place holds many cenotaphs of the great rulers of Bikaner. All the cenotaphs (Chatrri) are dedicated to rulers of Bikaji dynasty who ruled Bikaner for centuries. Each cenotaph is situated exactly on the place where the great ruler was buried after death. All the cenotaphs are made of red sandstone and beautifully carved. They are decorated with paintings on their ceiling. It is a must place to visit in Bikaner. Local transport is available from the main city to Devi Kund.5. Deshnok Temple
Deshnok temple is situated in a small village named Deshnok which is around 32 kilometers away from the Bikaner city on the Jodhpur Road. This temple is dedicated to Karni Mata who is believed to be an incarnation (Avatar) of the goddess Durga. She lived here in fourteenth century and was famous for her miracles. It is a famous pilgrim for the followers of Karni Mata and the goddess Durga. Temple is beautifully carved with marble and silver gates by Maharaja Ganga Singh as this place was also famous among royal families and they often came here to get blessings from Karni Mata. One can take public transport or hire private taxis to reach the temple.6. Bhandeshwari Jain temple
Bhandeshwari Jain temple is among the oldest temples in Bikaner. It was constructed in fifteenth century and decorated with mirror work and gold leaf paintings. This place is one of the main pilgrim places for the Jain followers. The temple remains open from early morning to late night. Best time to visit the temple is during the time of prayer when the holy sound and fragrance freshens the mind and body. 7. Camel research farm
Camel research farm is located 8 kilometers away from the main city. It is managed by central government and only one of its kind in Asia. Shiv Bari temple is located 6 kilometers away from the main city. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a famous pilgrim place. There are many accessories of wars like guns, swords, costumes, protector, etc. The museum remains open for the tourists from 9 am to 6 pm daily. Entry fees for Indian residence is Rs.10 per adult and Rs.5 per child. Entry fees for foreigner is Rs.25. One can also take camera with him with a nominal pay of Rs.20 for the digital camera and Rs.75 for the video camera. 10. Ganga singh Museum
Ganga Singh museum is described as best museum in the Rajasthan. It holds the rich collection of archaeological discoveries of Harappan and Gupta dynasty periods. It includes paintings, coins, art and craft, ancient weapons, terracotta, carpet and pottery etc. The museum is open for tourist on all days except Fridays and government holidays from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. The entry fee for the museum is just Rs.3 per head.
