Free Computer Education in Schools of Assam: Rajiv Gandhi Computer Literacy Programme (RGCLP)
RGCLP (Rajiv Gandhi Computer Literacy Programme)is a unique educational venture started by Government of Assam to "Build a Computer Literate Assam". Under this scheme computer education is provided free of cost, to the students of the Government Schools. All government higher secondary, high schools and high madrassa schools across the state has been covered under RGCLP- helping students to make a big leap towards the computer savvy world of tomorrow.
The Planning and Development Department, Government of Assam is the nodal department for RGCLP project and Assam Electronics Development Corporation (AMTRON), the State Nodal Agency for Information Technology is the nodal implementing agency of the same. The Education Service Partners from private sector are NIIT Ltd , EDUCOMP & CMC Ltd.
There is no course fee for the students undergoing computer education through RGCLP. Free course materials are also provided to the students. Besides computer education, course on Spoken English is also provided. Multimedia Educational Software and Computer Aided Education an English, Maths, Science and Social Science are part of RGCLP.
Under RGCLP scheme some infrastructure is also developed in the school. A Computer Laboratory having false ceiling, vinyl flooring, branded electrical fittings, standard furniture, 24KVA eco-friendly generator is set up. The equipments installed in the laboratory includes computers & peripherals viz. Server (1 No), Desktop Nodes (9 Nos), UPS (10 Nos), 16-Port Switch (1 No), CAT 5 UTP Networking, Modem and Printer.
The RGCLP scheme has been implemented in 5 phases as highlighted below.
Highlights of RGCLP Phase I, II & III:
* Covered all 630 Higher Secondary Schools across the state of Assam
* Project Implemented in Three Phases
* Phase I launched on 19th February, 2004 and covered 200 HS Schools
* Phase II launched on 27th March, 2005 and covered another 200 HS Schools
* Phase III launched on 20th August, 2005 and covered rest 230 HS Schools
* Classes Covered - V to XII
* Empowering 800 students per school per year

* Stress on performance & results
* Computer Aided Education on 4 subjects viz English, Maths, Science & Social Science
* Multimedia Educational Software
* Spoken English Course
* Testing & Certification in Computer Education at the end of every academic year
Highlights of RGCLP Phase IV:
* Launched on 11th February, 2006
* 300 High Schools and 39 High Madrassa Schools across the state were covered
* Classes covered- V to X
* LINUX based curriculum
* Empowering 600 students per school per year

* Stress on performance & results
* Computer Aided Education on 4 subjects viz English, Maths,Science & Social Science
* Multimedia Educational Software
* Spoken English Coarse
* Testing & Certification in Computer Education at the end of every academic year
