Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the 'Dhubri' district of Western Assam at a distance of 70 kms. from the township of Dhubri and 269 kms. from Guwahati.

About Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary


Till 1994, Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary was just a forest patch. On 14 July 1994, Assam government declared it as a wildlife sanctuary by a notified gazette. Thus Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary can be called as the youngest sanctuary of the North East India.

Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of 45.658 sq. km. (11260 acres). Golden Langur (Presbytis GeeI) is the most seen and most liked asset of Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary as Golden LAngur are found only along the border of Assam and Bhutan. Tourists from far away places visit Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary to have a glimpse of Golden Langur along with various other flora and fauna. The flora of the Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary includes rare specimen of trees, medicinal plants and shrubs whereas the fauna of Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary includes 273 species of various birds including migratory birds, 11 species of reptiles, 60 species of fishes, 14 species of Amphibians and various mammals including Golden Langur, Civet Car, leopard, Tiger, Flying Squirrel, Leopard Cat, Gaur, etc.

Another beautiful aspect of the sanctuary is several small springs flowing and spattering over the rocks of the sanctuary. The two main ever flowing springs in the sanctuary are Howhowi Jhora and Bamuni Jhora. These springs play dual role in the sanctuary. One is the addition in the beauty of the sanctuary and another so that it provides a facility to the wild animals of the sanctuary to quench their thirst.

The best time to visit Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary is from the months of November to April.

You can reach Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary by air, rail or road. The nearest airport to Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary is at Guwahati (LGBI airport) which is 263 kms. away. Other major towns near Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary are Dhubri, Bongaigaon and Kolkrajhar, which are 70 km., 50 km., and 7 km. away from Chakrasila Wildlife Sanctuary respectively.
