Location of Nameri National Park


Nameri National Park is located in the Sonitpur district of Assam, touching the foothills of Eastern Himalayas. It is approx. 181 kms. from Guwahati and 35 kms. from Tezpur.

About Nameri National Park


Nameri National Park had come into existence o9n 18 September 1985 covering an area of 137 sq. km. Originally it was a patch of Naduar Forest Reserve. Later on, 75 sq. km. land was added in the original patch of land and finally the Nameri National Park came into existence on 15 November 1998 covering a total area of 212 sq. km.

Nameri National Park is second tiger reserve of Assam. It is a habitat of rare wildlife. Some of the animals in Nameri National Park are Indian Bison, Capped Langur, Clouded Leopard, Sambhar Indian Giant Squirrel, Himalayan Black Deer, Sloth Bear, Dhole, Pangolin, Indian Wild Dog, Muntjac, Civet Cat, Jackals, Assamese Macaque, Bengal Fox, Mouse Deer, Jungle Car, Fishing Cat, Hornbill of four species, Indian Porcupine, etc. There are more than 300 birds in Nameri National Park including White Winged Wood Duck, Plover, Grey Headed Fishing Eagle, Blue-Bearded Bee0eater, Nuthatch, Drongor, Babblers, Butterflies, etc.

By air:
The nearest airport is at Saloni which is about 10 kms. from Tezpur. Other nearby airports are in Sonitpur district and at Guwahati.

By rail:
The nearest railway station is at Rangapara (60 kms. from Bhalukpong).

By road:
Nameri National Park is well inter connected with various cities and towns of rest of the country. You can hire a bus or taxi from any nearby city or town. Regular buses make up can down to Nameri National Park from Tezpur.
