Unlike the other bird sanctuaries of Assam, Panidihing Bird Sanctuary is one of a kind. It is the only bird sanctuary in the state to be approved by the Government. The sanctuary was officially declared and established on December in the year 1996 by the Government of Assam.

The Pani Dihing Bird Sanctuary is located in the Sivasagar district and is spread across a total area of 33.94 square kilometers. The popularity of this sanctuary is mostly due to it being the home to many different domestic and migrating birds who visit the sanctuary at regular intervals. More than a thousand species of birds can be seen at the Pani Dihing Birds Sanctuary. The most popular and important of these birds are the Adjutent storks and the fishing eagles.
