About Jonbeel Mela
Jonbeel Mela is one of the religious festival of Assam celebrated at the period of Magh Bihu at Dayang Belguri of Jonbeel. This historic place of Assam is situated at about 5 km from Jagiroad in Marigaon district and 32 km from Guwahati. NH 37 is the main highway connecting to Jonbeel Mela. The place Jonbeel represents two worth meaning that Moon and a wetland, got its importance for crescent moon shaped large natural water body. These are the most interesting scenic beauty for observing near Jonbeel Mela. So Jonbeel Mela is one of the famous festival of Assam.
History of this famous festival says about the period of 15th Century AD and organizer of this Mela namely Ahom kings which is first begun to meet the political situations.
Jonbeel Mela is the most significant festival celebrating a fire worship namely Agni puja for well living their people. communities and tribes come from northeast downward hills are like Karbi, Khasi, Tiwa, and Jayantia.
