East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary
East Karbi Anglong Wildlife sanctuary is located at Karbi Anglong district in the state of Assam, North East India. The sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. Some rare species of birds can be seen in the sanctuary. The article will provide the detail information about the sanctuary.
East Karbi Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary was declared as a wildlife sanctuary on 27 th July 2000 by the Government of Assam. It covered the forest area of Mikir Hills and its adjacent forest land with an area of 221.81 sq. kms. The sanctuary is located in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam which is an autonomous district council of the state. The sanctuary is controlled and maintained by the East Karbi Anglong Forest Division. It is also an important part of the Kaziranga- Karbi Anglong Elephant reserve. The sanctuary is situated at the highest of 80 to 100 m above sea level and enjoys a annual rainfall of 1800mm. The maximum temperature goes up to 30 degree Celsius and minimum temperature goes down at 6 degree Celsius during winter. The vegetation found in the forest are tropical semi evergreen & moist deciduous forest.Some of the important tree species are Holokh, Khokon, Bhelu, Nahor, Poma, Hilikha etc.Best season for visit the sanctuary
The ideal time to visit the park is November to April. Since during the summer months the temperature rises up to 30 degree celcius it is not possible to make a visit in the park. Apart from this there is heavy rain during this season.
What to see in the sanctuary
The sanctuary is rich in flora and fauna. The commonly found animals in the park are Tiger, Elephant, Gaur, Sambar, Bears, Barking deer, Rhesus macaque, Hoolock gibbon, Wild pigs, Lesser cats etc. In the park one can see many rare and endangered species of birds including migratory birds. Around 260 species of birds have been recorded so far in the park. The most commonly found birds are 4 species of Hornbill, Green Pigeon, Green Imperiol Pigeon, Rackettailed Drongo, Jungle Myna, Black Headed Oriole,Minivet, Eagles,Woodpecker etc.Reptiles & Amphibians found here are Python, Cobra, Monitor lizards, Hill tortoise etc.How to reach the sanctuary
Dimapur Airport is the nearest airport which is 150 kms away from the park. LGBI Airport Guwahati is about 190 kms away from the park. Regular bus service is available from Guwahati to Karbi Anglong.Accommodation near the sanctuary
