Assam is a land of different community tribes, which plays a very important role in the culture and tradition of the State. Rabha Tribe Community is one of the scheduled tribes community found in Assam.This unique community tribe is scattered along the golaghat and Kamrup districts of the state. Some of the Rabha community people also lives in Jalpaiguri and cooch bihar districts of West Bengal. Almost the whole part of Eastern and Western Dooars are considered as the land of Rabha community.Language spoken by Rabha people
Rabha people lives in forest village speak the language as the same of their name and they have many similarities with the other tribes such as Garos, Kachari, and Koch etc. Although the people of Dooars claim themselves as Rabha but some of them refer to themselves as Koch. Agriculture is the main occupation of this community. Earlier they used to practice shifting cultivation but later on they took the job of settled cultivation. Besides agriculture they also engaged in forest based activities and handloom weaving. It is the traditional occupation of Rabha Women. Now a days these people have taken the occupation of teacher and government officials but their development is quite low in respect of other communities. Although, the government has taken many steps for their development but all has not come in practice.Relegion and culture
The Rabha community belongs to the Indo Mongoloid group and has similarities with other tribes of Assam such as Boro, Garos, Kachari, Mech, Koch and Hajong. The rabha person living in West Bengal and Assam generally speaks Bengali and Assamese language. The people who lived in forest areas have their own Rabha language. They celebrate many festivals like Bihu, Durga puja etc.
