Communists party , CPI(M) , gaining pace and support in Shimla
The civic body elections took place in shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Mr. Virbhadra Singh , congress; Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal , Bhartiya Janta Party; and Mr. Sita Ram Yechuri , Communists’ Party, marxcist ,CPI(M) were the star campaigners. The election proved to be a very important move for the next loksabha elections in Himachal. This election partially highlighted the shift in the inclination of the trust and support of the local people of Shimla towards parties other than congress.
In two weeks, every common man of Shimla had witnessed the hustle and bustle of civic body election campaign going on before the 27th of may, 2012 civic body elections. The Friday evening before the elections the main campaigning program ended. The candidates from different political parties were visiting almost every house of various wards. As usual all the candidates were going from one door to another with folded hands, sugar coated tongue and a wide smile. As artificial as it could be !
And curse the geographic locations in various wards ,for most of the time they were campaigning on foot and that also with a huge smile ,bravo. We might not see them until next elections.
Anyway coming back to topic, on Sunday ie 27th of may, every one went to the polling booth to cast their votes. On Monday, EVMs were opened and counting began.
This time including 2 ladies there were 7 candidates contesting for the post of mayor. Whereas 1 woman and 4 men were contesting for the post of deputy mayor.
In this campaign Congress party made 20 public meetings, 28 road shows with Mrs. Vidya Stokes, Mr. Kaul Singh, and Mr. Virbhadra Singh as star campaigners.
BJP made 7 public meetings, 23 road shows with Mr. Dhumal, Mr. Narendra Baragta, Mr. Rajiv Bindal, Mr. Jairam Thakur, Ravindra Ravi and Mahender Singh.
CPM did 3 public meetings, 23 road shows with star attractions like Mr. Sitaram Yechuri, Mr. Rakesh Singha, Mr. Kuldeep Tanwar,Mr. Kashmir Thakur, Mr. Kushal Bhardwaj, Mr. Prem Gautam and Mr. Aunkar Shad .
The places of the mayor and deputy mayor were occupied by the candidates of the communists party , BJP won 12 seats and congress won 10 seats and CPI(M) 3 seats. Where congress party which had been ruling in shimla from many years has show a decline , CPI(M) seems to be gaining momentum. It doesn't take time for the coin to toss in politics.
Well then, the best deserving won and hopefully for a change they will work for the upliftment of there respective wards.
