Water resource: Ram Niwas water tank in Chamba

Ram Niwas Tank on Hill
Ram Niwas tank is one of the major water resources in the Chamba city. This tank was built by the British Government in the end of the 18th century. It is completely made of the stones and its roof is made of the slates. This tank is situated below the Hill which is known as Shah Madar Hill where one of the famous temples is situated known as Suhi Mata Temple where every year in the month of March April there is a function. The complete capacity of this tank is about 2 to 3 lakh liter. This tank is made in square shape. Its height is about 20to 25 feet and about 5 to 10 feet below the soil. The source of this water is made by the two big lines which is coming from the Himalayan glaciers after travelling about 200 to 300 km distances. And the water of this tank is given to the people of the Chamba tank. This tank is comes under the Irrigation and Public Health department Chamba. For the safety of this tank there is person for its security in the day as well night. Whose job is also mixed the bleaching powder in the water so that water remains cleans and all the germs that are generating in the water were killed by this powder.
Another tank in the city
About 200 meters from this tank there is another tank on the above the road side on the Jumar road whose capacity is about 1 lakh liter. This tank was built by the state government in the recent years. The source of this tank is also same as that of Ram Niwas tank that is Himalayan water. This tank is developed with modern facility as compared to the Ram Niwas Tank. This tank is also operated by the IPH department of the Chamba district. This tank is also provides water for the people of the chamba city.
Apart from these two tank there are so many sub branches of these tanks which are made by the different villages to store water and use this water in case of emergency. By these tanks many of the problems which are related with water are solved.
