Churdhar is a beautiful place in Sirmaur district which is basically famous for the temple of Lord Shiva's. Here in this place there is a Shiv Ling, which is believed to be the religious Ling. The name of the place is derived from the Chureshwer Maharaj, who had some extra ordinary super natural power. Here we are discussing the history of this place and how to reach this place.
Story behind this temple
This temple was one of the oldest temples of the Lord Shiva's. This temple is situated on the top of the hill and in front of the statue of Shiva's there is a small Shiv Ling, which was one of the religious and oldest Ling, found ever.
It is believed that during the 16th century, here one person lives whose name was Shirgul who had super power, so the government of British had given punishment and put into the prison for lifetime. But he had been escaped from the prisoner with the help of Lady whose name is Bhangani, and when he came back to his birth place Churdhar, then he thrown the piece of soil to the capital of India's Indraprastha (Delhi) and which you can also see now.
Why it was called "Churdhar"
It is believed that when the Shirgul was in the prison than some ghost whose motive was to destroy the people of these areas, lives here. But when he came back to it, than the entire Ghost were killed by him. In local language Ghost is known as "Chudail" and Mountains is known as "Dhar" and the combination of these two words is known as "Churdhar", after that this place is known as Churdhar.
Main attraction of the Place
The temple of Shiva's was built on the Highest mountain means all other mountains are smaller in height than this mountains. In front of this there is a Shiv Ling. About 300 metre from this Shiv Ling, the people Sirmaur built another temple with free facility of night stay and free food are served to the all pilgrimage in the night.
This place is totally surrounded with large number of stones. There is a big stone, from where you can see the beautiful view of Chuapal.
When to visit this place
This place is also famous for the heavy snow fall in the winter. So it is closed from the month of November to till the April. So if you are thinking to visit this place, the time between the July to September is the best time to visit it. When you are thinking visit this place than brings only usable things with themselves, don't come with extra things because there is no road facility to temple. One more things which you should know that when you are visiting, always wear warm clothes even in the summer season.
How to reach this place
This temple is situated in the Sirmaur district. There are two ways to reach this temple; first one is from Saranha and second from Nauradhar. First one is very short to reach this temple. There is no road facility from the Nauradhar or Saranha, so you have to go walk on the feet. There are so many buses are available for the Nauradhar or Saranha from the Solan as well as from Shimla.
