History and details of lakes in HP


Here we are talking about the different lakes of the Himachal Pradesh which is situated in the different district. Here we are basically talking about the Dal Lake, Khajjiar Lake, Chamera Lake, Rewalsar Lake, Prashar Lake, Nako Lake, Renuka Lake, Govind Sagar Lake, Suraj Tal Lake and Chandra Tal Lake.

Renuka Lake in Sirmaur

Renuka Lake is situated in the Sirmaur district which is about 30 km from Nahan. It is one of the oldest and religious lake of the state. Renuka was name of the mother of the Lord Parshuram, who sacrifices her life to save her child. So in the memory of Parshuram's mother, this lake is known as Renuka Lake. Every year in the month of November, there is an International Renuka Fair is celebrated in which statue of the Lord Parshuram is taken from the temple and bathed in this lake and on the last day it is taken back to temple.

Dal Lake in Chamba

This is one of the religious lake of the Chamba district which is situated on the top of mountain and situated about 100 km from Chamba on the Bharmaur road. It is believed that, this lake was the living place of the Lord Shiva's and in the early morning Lord Shiva's bathed in this lake. Here in this place there is "Mani Mahesh" journey held in which so many peoples comes and bathed in this lake. This lake is situated in the Mani Mahesh.

Rewalsar lake in Mandi

Rewalsar Lake is situated in the Mandi district and it is about 25 km from the Mandi bus stand. This lake is in square shape which is covered with so many flowers and trees. Near this lake there is a small zoo in which there are so many varieties of the birds and other animals are present. Rewalsar is also famous for the Buddhist monastery and temples.

Nako Lake in Kinnaur

This lake is situated in the Kinnaur district, which is one of the famous lake of this district. This lake is not so much big. This lake is surrounded by different types of trees. In front of this lake there are so many Buddhist temple can be seen. This lake is situated on the 3600 meter above the sea level.

Chandra Tal Lake in Lahaul & Spiti

This is one of the holiest lake of the Lahaul Spiti. This lake is situated about 5 km from the Kunzum Pass. This lake is main source of the water for Chandra River. This lake is situated in the middle of the glaciers. This lake's blue water is about 2.5 km in circumference.

Suraj Tal Lake in Lahaul & Spiti

Suraj Tal lake is also one of the famous lake of the Lahaul and Spiti district. This lake is situated about 5000 meter above from the sea level. This lake is situated below the Baralacha Pass in Lahaul valley. This lake is the main source of the water for Bhaga River. Baralacha Pass connects Manali and Lahaul to the Ladakh.

Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur

The Govind Sagar Lake was situated on the Satluj River in Bilaspur district and name of lake was derived from the Punjab's tenth Sikh Guru Govind Singh. This lake was one of the biggest artificial lake of the state. This lake is about 80 km long in length. In this lake you can also enjoy the boating.

Khajjiar Lake in Chamba

This is one of the religious and natural lake of the district. It is situated in the Khajjiar which is about 25 km from the Chamba on the Dalhousie road. This lake is situated in the middle of the ground which is surrounded by the deodar and oak trees. In front of this lake there is a temple of the Naag Devata. This is one of the best tourist spot in the state where you can enjoy the sports adventures like boating, horse riding, balloon riding and Para gliding etc.

Chamera lake in Chamba

This is one of the artificial lake of the Chamba district which is situated on the Ravi River. This lake is the main source of the electricity in Chamba district. On this lake there is about 3 hydro projects are currently generating the electricity. Here in this lake you can also enjoy the boating and is one of the biggest artificial lakes in the district.

Prashar Lake in Mandi

This lake is situated in the Mandi district, which is about 40 km from the Mandi. Parashar was a Rishi in the ancient times who meditate in this place after that this lake is called Prashar Lake. This is one of the oldest and religious lakes of the Mandi district.
