Dusshera Festival is one of the famous festivals of the state which is celebrated in the Kullu District every year in the month of October. This festival continues for the seven days in which there are many cultural programs and other programs takes placed. This festival was firstly started in the 16th century by the local king of Kullu Valley. History of Dusshera
This festival was firstly started in the 16th century by the local king of the Kullu Valley. There is a story behind this festival which makes it more alive to the peoples of the Kullu. It is believed that local king of the Kullu valley is cursed by someone and o said that whatever he eats it becomes hotter. So the local Rishi of the valley said that this cursed was removed only if you take the state of the Lord Raghunath from the Ayodhya (Birth place of lord Rama) to the Kullu Valley. Than he sent his servants to Ayodhya and they stole the idols of the Lord in night and when in the next morning peoples of the Ayodhya see that there is no idol of the Raghunath was stolen by someone. So they start searching and finally they search the peoples with idol of the Lord Raghunath in the Kullu Valley. But when they take the statue to Ayodhya it becomes so heavy and they can't pick it up. So this idol taken to the Kullu Valley and from that when this festival started, the idol of the Lord Raghunath was taken on the Rath in the market.
Main attraction of the Dusshera 2013
International Dushhera festival was begun from 13th October and continues for the seven days. In the beginning ceremony there was a big Yatra of lord was taken from the Dhalpur ground to the main market. In this Journey so many peoples and their local Devi-Devata participated in the Journey. Every year this festival was started with this big journey.
In this there are so many culture programs were performed by the local artist. In the night there are so many cultural programs were takes place. On the Friday night artist from the Orissa came and enjoy the peoples on the Orissi song.
The main attraction of the festival is the picture on the cup. In the Dhalpur ground where there are so many exhibition programs were takes place and there are also some people who made your pictures on the cup or pillow within half an hour. The peoples of the Kullu are so much interested and amazing about the talent of the peoples and said that they have seen such things first time in the Kullu Dushhera.
Closing Ceremony of Dushhera 2013
Closing ceremony of the Dushhera Festival will be held on 20th October in which the main guest of the festival will be the Chief Minister of the State Raja Virbhadra Singh.
How to reach
You can easily reach Kullu by bus as well by aero plane. There are so many buses are available from the different part of state as well as outside the state. This city is connected to other part of country by National Highway.
