History of Renuka
The name of this place was derived from the name of the Lord Parshu Ram Mother name. His mother name was Renuka who had sacrificed her life to save to her child Lord Parshu Ram.
It is believed that this lake was during the times of Mahabharata and that time it is known as Ram Sarovar. One day Lord Parshu Ram father and four elder brothers were killed by someone and his mother was hiding in the Ram Sarovar Lake to save her life from that that killed her husband and children. But Lord Parshu Ram and Bramha pray to the Renuka Mata to come outside the water after that this Ram Sarovar Lake is known as Renuka Lake.
After 10 days from the Diwali festival, it is believed that Lord Parshu Ram meet with his mother. In those memory peoples of this district celebrates festival in the month of November after Diwali every year.

Renuka Mata Temple
The name of this place was derived from the name of the Renuka Mata, who was the mother of Lord Parshu Ram, who sacrificed her life to save to her children. In this place there is a temple in which the statue of the Mata Renuka was placed in front of the Lord Parshu Ram. Apart from it there are so many statues are placed on the other side of the temples. There are about 9 statues of the different lady gods who are worship in the Navratra. This temple was firstly built in the 15th century but new building was built in the 19th century by the state government of the Himachal Pradesh. Around the temples are so many flowers were present and in front of the temple there is a small lake in which there are so many fishes and ducks are swimming.
When you enter the temple, than on the right side there is Small stage where all function will be held every year. In front of stage there is a small ground and around the ground there is a sitting arrangement has been also done. All the night programs will hold here when Renuka Fair was celebrated in the month of November every year.
Renuka Lake
About 200 meter from the Renuka Temple, there is a big Lake which is spared across so many areas. This is one of the biggest natural lakes of the state as well country. The old name of this lake was Ram Sarovar. One day Mata Renuka hide in this lake to save to her life and she came outside the lake when Lord Parshu Ram and Lord brahma pray than only she came outside to the lake, after that this lake is known as Renuka Lake. The depth of this lake is mystery to everyone till now. One day, one Rishi go inside this lake to check the depth of this lake but he never came back return.
Here in this lake there are so many varieties of the fishes are available as well as ducks. There are so many other birds can be seen on the corner of the lakes. Here in this lake you can also enjoy the boating with extra precautions.
Zoo
This place is one of the best picnic spot in the Himachal Pradesh from the summer vacation where you can enjoy boating as well see different varieties of the animals and also take blessing of the Lord Parshu Ram and Mata Renuka.
This zoo is situated around the lake or we can say that this lake is situated in the middle of this Zoo. Here there are so many animals are present in this zoo. There you will see leopard. Here in this zoo there is only one Leopard is available. About 100 meters from it you will see the black beer. There are about 6 to 7 black beer are present. On the right side of it you'll see the King of jungle Lion.
You can also see the different varieties of the deer, Jungle Cock, Kakkad and other animals. But these are the animals which you will definitely see in this zoo.
International Renuka Fair
In the month of November and after Diwali, here in this place International Renuka Fair was celebrated every year. When this fair was started than Statues of the Lord Parshu Ram was taken from the temple and bathed into the Renuka Lake on the last day of the fair the statue of the Lord Parshu Ram was took back to temple from where it was taken.
This festival was continues for the several days in which so many peoples came across the state as well country. In night cultural programs were performed by the local artist.
This year, it will be started after 10th November so you can also enjoy this festival by joining this festival which will be started after 10 days.
How to reach
This place is about two km from the Dadau. You can easily reach this place bus which is about 35 km from Nahan on the Shimla road. You can easily reach Nahan by bus as well aero plane. Nahan is about 100 km from the Chandigarh and 400 km from the National capital Delhi.
November month is the best time to visit this place because during this time you can also see the festival which is held once in a year. But when you visit this place than always warm clothes because in the month f November winter season is going to started so climate may be change any time so always warm clothes with yourself.
