In the north part of the country, Railway lines are very few or we can say only 2 to 3 rail lines are presents in which Shimla Kalka toy train and other rail line are presents in the Jammu and Kashmir state. Shimla Kalka toy train was initially started by British Government in the 19th century from the Kalka (situated in the Haryana state) to the Shimla via Solan. This train initially started from the place area and ended at the hilly area in which you will see different tunnels across the way. There is about 108 tunnels in the way from the Kalka to the Shimla. It is a single line train. There are about 4 to 5 main famous place are situated in the way. The longest tunnel of the way is in the Barog which is about 1.2 km long and is one of the biggest tunnels of the train in the state. The famous place where you can drink tea and other local fruits and other products is Barog and is one of the popular places of the way. Apart from here are so many places comes in the way such as Sanwara, Dharampur, Barog, Solan, Kandaghat, Tuttu etc.
It is about 70 to 80 km from the Shimla to Kalka. There are different types of train are available with ordinary, semi deluxe and deluxe train for this place. In the ordinary fare if very less as compared to the bus rate while in the semi deluxe or in deluxe you will be charges almost double fare as compared to the normal. Online reservation facility is also available. Every day about 7 to 8 trains from the Shimla to Kalka and from Kalka to Shimla goes daily.
