Great Himalayan National Park which is also known as GHNP is situated in the Kullu district of the Himachal Pradesh. It was built in the 1984 by the state government in association with state tourism department and ministry of tourism of central. This park was fully completed after few years in the 1988 and was initially opened for the peoples in the 1990. Recently UNESCO has declared this park as world heritage. Great Himalayan National Park
GHNP or Great Himalayan National Park is situated in the Banjar region of the Kullu district which was initially established in the 1984. Recently UNESCO (United Nation Educational Scientific Cultural Organization) has declared this park as world heritage. It is one of the famous parks of the state and now it has been declared as world heritage so it becomes also one of the popular parks in the nation as well as across the International. It is great honor for this park as well as state to be recognized by the UNESCO. After recognized by the UNESCO, different ministers of the state have congratulated the workers of the GHNP and said that it will definitely increase the level of tourism in the state up to certain level.
Main Attractions of Park
This park was spread out in about 1200 square km areas and there are about more than 375 species of flora as well as fauna each. Out of these total species it nearly comprises of 31 mammals, 181 birds, 3 reptiles, 9 amphibians, 11 annelids, 17 mollusks and 127 insects. All these species are protected with the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, so there is no permission of hunting of any types of species and any guilty found will be punishable as per rule. When you visit this park then you can different varieties of fauna such as Blue Sheep, snow leopard, Himalayan brown bear, Himalayan thar and musk deer. And also in the autumn seasons so many birds will migrates from the higher altitudes to the lower regions of this park.
There are also different varieties of the flora such as lofty pines, spruce and horse chestnuts. Lower valley of the park covered with dense cushions and prostrates branches of the alpine herbs and junipers. You can also see different varieties of flowers present in the park.
How to visit
This park is situated in the Banjar region of the Kullu district. You can easily reach this place by bus as well as taxi. There are so many buses are available for the place from the other parts of the state as well as outside of the state. This place is also connected with other parts of the country by aero plane so if you want to come through the air service then you have to take the flight to the Bhuntar airport and from where you can easily take bus or taxi for the park. If you want to enjoy beauty of this park than you have to visit in the summer season when climate is not too much cold and hot.
