A native of Mandekolu village, Sullia Taluk, Udupi Chikmagalur, Sadananda Gowda is the son of Venkappa and Kamala Gowda. After doing his early education in local schools at Sullia and later at Keyyur (Puttur Taluk), Sadananda Gowda pursued his studies at St. Philomena College in Puttur. He graduated from this college with a science degree and later studied law at the Udupi Vaikunta Baliga College of Law.
It was during his college years that Sadananda Gowda first entered the political minefield, getting elected as the General Secretary of the Students Union of the college & becoming actively involved with the all-India student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) as its District General Secretary. Sadananda Gowda briefly took up the role of a Public Prosecutor at Shirsi. He later resigned from his Govt. post in order to pursue his interests in social work.
It was in 1994 that Sadananda Gowda became an MLA, a post which he retained 5 years later. It was at this time that he became the Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. On being elected as Member of Parliament, Sadananda Gowda was appointed as the National Secretary of Bharathiya Janata Party. In this role, he was given responsibility of the party's programs in Goa. Proving his caliber, he soon got promoted to State President for Karnataka State in March 2006 & he was re-elected, taking charge of State President of BJP during March 2007.
