Avalakki Pongal Recipe.
If you are fasting and you are missing rice. Dont do that. Because I have a treat for your mouth. A different recipe. That is avalakki pongal. Low calorie yet delicious. You will love it! Definitely enjoy!
AVALAKKI PONGAL
Ingredients needed to make Avalakki Pongal:
Avalakki(thick variety)- 2 portions(soaked and drained)
Yellow moong Dal- 1 portion (soaked and pressure cooked)
Black Pepper (menasu)- 8-10 nos.(little ground)
Cumin seeds (jeera)-1 1/2 tsp(for seasoning)
Ginger- 1 tsp (Cut into small pieces)
Green chilies- 5-6 nos.
Turmeric Powder-a pinch
Hing -a pinch
Cumin seed powder- 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder-1/2 teaspn
Curry leaves-8-10 nos.
Fresh Coriander- for garnishing
Freshly grated coconut- 2 Tbsp
Oil-2 tea spoon
How to make Avalakki Pongal
1.Pressure cook yellow moong Dal that is which was soaked before and keep this aside.
2.Soak the avlakki and drain it completly and keep aside.
3. Grind green chilies, cumin seeds ,3-4 pepper and ginger in a mixer.The paste need not be very very fine.
4.In a pan pour oil, add half tea spoon cumin seeds and 4-5 pepper to it, then add hing and curry leaves.
5. Now add cumin seed powder, coriander powder, salt and turmeric powder to the oil.
6.Then add the cooked yellow moong dal and the ground chilly paste to it.
7.Cook it for a minute or a two.
8.Then add the soaked Avalakki.
9. Mix it thoroughly.
10.Keep it for sometime in a low flame.
11. After that, garnish it with coriander leaves.
12. Add ghee and enjoy the avalakki pongal. It will be delicious.
Benefits of Avalakki pongal:
Avalakki pongal has lot of proteins because of Moong dal. And also overall calorie content is low since avalakki has less calories.
