Upendra started his career in Kannada film industry (Sandalwood) as a writer and Assistant Director with Kannada Movie director Kashinath.
Debut movie of Upendra as director is Tharle Nan Maga. In the movie "Tharle Nan Maga" he showed his talent and skills of his direction, lyrics and script writing. Upendra continued the career of Upendra in directing the movies till 1997.
Upendra directed the movie "OM", and "OM" movies has cretaed history in Kannada Film Industry.
In 1998, Upendra directed and acted as a hero in the movie "A". "A" movies was created new sensation in Kannada film industry and Upendra showed his acting performance in the movie "A". Upendra have multi skills, like script writing, lyrics writing, singing, acting, direction etc.
