Metro Smart Card- Be Smart enough to get it properly!


Recently our new Chief Minister D.V Sadananda Gowda launched the Metro Smart Card in Vidhana Soudha! This is to avail the facility of Metro Train Traveling. The Government or the BMRCL is charging 100/- for the card. 50/- for the card registration and processing. The remaining 50/- for the currency. What is this Currency?Why is this card? Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda recently launched the Namma Metro Smart Card that is on September 3rd 2011.

It is a Card like Bus Pass shown during the bus travel. So this Namma Metro Smart Card can be used while traveling in Metro train which runs from Byappanahalli to M.G.Road. Metro has not officially got an approval for the transportation of public yet Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda says that it will start from September 25th.

This Namma Metro Smart Card is sort of a debit-cum-transit card that is dependent completely on the technology provided by one of the Nationalised bank i.e.State Bank of India (SBI). Also the Namma Metro Card acting as a transit cum debit card, this Namma Metro Smart SBI card can also be used for ATM transactions and for purchases at retail stores and for other shopping purposes.

The Namma Metro Smart Card will consist of an “e-purse or recharging account which will store money for travel in prepaid like in a Mobile sim Card If the Currency is over you must recharge like how you recharge for your Mobile.

Process of Recharging Namma Metro Smart Card and it Benefits:

1.The e-purse or your acoount can be recharged through any of SBIs (State Bank of India) banking channels like ATM, mobile and Internet banking apart from cash. Counters at 5 metro stations like M.G road,Byappanahalli are yet to come.


2.This Namma Metro Smart Card which has a chip on it, will definitely help in
hurdles free travel on the Namma Metro network along with the benefits provided by the SBI bank!


3.The Namma Metro Smart cards are issued in all SBI branches in Karnataka and India. So you can purchase the card nearby to your place.

4.Also,for the existing SBI bank debit card holders have a good option of having this card in addition to the regular debit card will be extended. Or if its too difficult, they can give back their old debit cards and avail this combo offer! This is definitely a good thing for all the customers.


6.In other types of top ups,i.e Non-cash top ups, after inserting the cards in the ATM machine, there will be a option called services,select that,later enter the pin i.e the password, select ‘BMRCL top-up i.e the denomination of money like 100/- ,200/-etc,enter the 11-digit card number and finally the top-up or recharge for the particular amount and confirm it. The top-up will be seen when you tap it in the entrance of the station!

7.The maximum amount of recharge a person can do is Rs 1,000 per transaction and Rs 100 will be the minimum amount!

The Namma Metro Smart Card or travel card resembles a normally available credit or debit card with an electronic chip on the card.This is what used for tapping in Metro stations. It can be used for performing multiple journeys and loaded with various types of tickets. The commuter will have to tap the card at the entry gate before boarding the train and also tap the card at the destination. The cost of the travel will be deducted from the card as per the distance traveled.

While stored value cards or contactless smart cards(CSC) ticketing system is taken from Delhi Metro, Bangalore Metro would not let the commuters to stand in the long queue to refill their cards. The smart card users can refill them online and through State Bank ATMs and even mobile phones wherein scratch cards would be sold at retailers. Just as if we used scratch prepaid mobile cards.

Namma Metro Smart cards are of Rs.100 denomination, which will entail them to commute in the air-conditioned Metro coaches three times (to and fro) at a cost of Rs.15 per trip from one end (M.G.Road) to other (Baiyyapanahalli).

The daily ticket of Namma Metro is priced in between 10 – 15 rupees where as the contactless cards will offer a good to buy discount of 5-10 percent. Bangalore Metro ticket system is a step ahead of what Delhi Metro currently uses.
