Story behind Unique festivals of karunadu- kodava samskruthi

A beautiful land throne with natural beauty has a story narrated in every household of kodavas of their mother Kaveri. Rishi Kavera was bestowed with river Kaveri from lord Brahma the creator of Goddess Kaveri as a result of constant penance. Kaveri also knonwn as Lopamudra was poured out from the celestial pot of Brahma. Later Lopamudra was named as Kaveri , the daughter of rishi Kavera. Kaveri grew up to be a beautiful maiden.

Once when Kaveri was plucking flowers for pooja the greatest rishi of those times rishi Agastya got attracted to her and asked the hand for marriage. Kavera delighted by the proposal got Kaveri married to Agastya . But Kaveri put a condition on Agastya that he cannot leave her for more than one muhurath , if he broke his promise Kaveri would acquire the form of water and flow as a river for the betterment of the world! Agastya agreed to the condition. After their marriage Kaveri resided in his kamandala
Once it happened so that Agastya had to go the nearby river Kannika to take auspicious bath. During that time Agastya hands the kamandala to his disciple.
Kaveri feeling dijection after being cheated by her husband flows like a river. When Agastya stops her she enters the ground and doesn't come out upto few kilometres. This fact still remains true as the sight of Kaveri around 2-3 kms is not visible from her birth place Tala Kaveri, because of which she is called Gupthagamini.

At one point when the people of kodogu asked her not to leave her children Kaveri replies "I will come to see you all once a year when the sun enters the tulla rashi." Likewise, every year in the month of October in Tala kaveri, mother Kaveri emerges as a spring. This moment is known to be Tula sankramana. This is an when the beloved mother comes to meet her children and visit her birth place.
