This article gives a description of Jog Falls in Karnataka. The highest falls in India is the Jog falls. It is located on the mountains of the Western Ghat at an altitude of 1,500 m on the river Sharavathy.
The Jog falls waterfall is one of the major tourist attractions of Karnataka and it is in the midst of attractive beauty. At the Jog falls from a altitude of 292 m, 4 streams of the river Sharavathy go down. The names of the 4 streams are Raja, Royar, Rocket and Rani (or White Lady). Raja falls straight and in the midway meets with Royar.
The natural attraction of the Jog falls is beyond imagination. During monsoons and after monsoon is the time when the Jog falls looks most attractive. The reflection of the rainbow colors can be seen in the water.
From 10 am to 6 pm on every second Sunday of the month water is released to the falls from the dam and at that time the full splendor of the falls can be seen.
On the river Sharavathy is built a hydro-electric plant on Jog. The Sharavathy Valley Project can be visited by taking permission from the Karnataka Power Corporation and in South Asia it is the largest and first of its kind.
The Lingamukhi Dam, Reservoir and Power House are situated at a distance of 13 km from Jog Falls and the Mahatma Gandhi Hydro-Electric Plant is situated at less than a kilometer from here. Sharavathy is their 3rd project which 10 km from here. These places can be visited by use of private vans.How to arrive at Jog falls:
At 16 km to the East of the Jog falls, the nearest railway station, Talguppa is situated. Shimoga, which is connected by many trains from Bangalore, Hubli and Mysore, is 98 km from Talguppa.

For more than 100 years during winter, migrating birds from all parts of the world have been assembling at this 74 hectare bird sanctuary which is a marshland.
It was in the year 1985 that this place started emerging and established as a bird sanctuary. It can be visited by bus from Talguppa via Sidhapur (32 km).Sagar:
Sandal wood and ivory industries are the fame of Sagar. Sagar is located 31 km from Jog and 340 km from Mysore. Sagar-Jambagaru is the station's name on the railway route of Talguppa-Shimoga. The commercial city of Sagar is visited by every bus going to Jog.
The Aghoreswar Temple at Ikkeri, which was built by the Nayak kings in the 16th century which is 3 km from the city, is one of Sagar's major attractions. Sagar is 72 km from Shimoga town.
