MOTHER TERESA -The saint for the unloved & unwanted

Mother Teresa was born on the 26th of August, 1910 in Albania. From early childhood, she used to listen to sermons and stones of the lives of saints who had dedicated their lives to service, with rapt attention. This had a deep influence on young Teresa. For her it was not just preaching but the way one should live life. The direct, simple sincerity of her I soul was the unique character of Mother Teresa. She took everything seriously and hence believed in actions. When she was eighteen, she left home and joined the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary.
After getting trained in Ireland, she came to India in 1929. She took her religious vows as a nun on 24th May, 1931. She worked as a teacher, in Loreto convent school in eastern Calcutta. While working as a teacher she was restless and filled with doubts. She saw the miserable poverty all around her and her deep love, compassion and sense of service took hold over her.
In 1946, while traveling in a train for her regular retreat, she got, as she later said. 'a call from God' a vision of what she had to do. Her vision then, her 'call from God' was to serve the poorest of the poor and do all that was within her fullest power to help them. Then began an extraordinary mission that the world would witness It was a phenomenon and its impact is left even now and continues to grow. It began as a small order of 13 members called Missionaries of Charity. Today this order has more than 4000 nuns running orphanages, AIDS hospices home for the dying, charity centers caring for refugees, the blind, the disabled, aged alcoholics, the poor & the homeless and victims of floods, epidemics and famines.
This was achieved by continuously and passionately working to spread her message through practical action throughout the world She had never found it difficult to get help. People were convinced and moved by her utter sincerity and saw her proving it in action. Millions of people responded to her call and still do. Mother Teresa had a unique way of perceiving poverty. She believed that the worst disease was to feel unwanted & unloved. Anything could be cured but the feeling of being unwanted & unloved was the worst suffering Love was the only answer. It makes a person feel special, good, in fact, human. She wanted people to even die with dignity. Hence she started the home for dying destitutes.
On the 5th of September 1997, at the age of eighty seven, Mother Teresa passed away. The whole world mourned as if a precious jewel were no more with them. She had been conferred with many awards including the Nobel peace prize and the Bharat Ratna.
There is a simple lest available to anyone (including her critics). Go to any of her institutions and check out for yourself. There is warmth, a love, a glow in the place. The Sisters working there are - in a way -reflections of Mother Teresa. They are simple, sincere and do their work out of love not duty. It touches you. You feel a hope, a great hope, that love Conquers and, at the end love is the answer.
You Come back. Your life is better, more sincere clearer. Whatever you do, you do with a sense of loving and giving. Millions have been touched by Mother Teresa in this manner.
That vision she got in the train is fulfilled & continues to spread as people believe Mother Teresa like no one else. That is true greatness.
