Shivasamudram, Karnataka
Shivasamudram is a famous tourist place in Karnataka. It is located on the Karnataka-Tamilnadu border. Here you can visit many places and temples like Nanjanguda Shiva Temple, Biligiri Rangnath Swami Temple, waterfalls, mountains and many other landscapes
The vast extraordinary natural landscape and number of waterfalls of Shivasamudram are a major attraction for tourists. Shivasamudram is surrounded by forests and mountains and is located on the Karnataka-Tamilnadu border.
Two temples-one of Lord Shiva and the other of Lord Vishnu are also present. Shivasamudram is at a distance of 37 km from Somnathpur, 77 km from Mysore and 120 km from Bangalore. The whole journey can be travelled by bus.
At Shivasamudram, the two tributaries of Cauvery namely Gaganchukki and Barachukki flow down like a falls from a height of 91 meters. This flow is at its best in the monsoons. 
Shivasamudram is in the shape of an island. Here, though not visible, we can hear the roar wild animals from time to time. The Shimsa Hydro Power Plant, the first of its kind (1902) in Asia, which is 1.5 Km from here can also be visited by obtaining permission.
Other places to visit around Shivasamudram
The Nanjanguda Shiva Temple from the 16th century which is located on the bank of the river Kapili, may also be visited. It is 18 km from Mysore. This temple is 110 m long temple and is built on 147 pillars. In March a three-day Car Festival takes place which is famous throughout South.
Gundalupet is situated 35 km to the south on the same way and from there you can pay a visit to Bandipur and Mudumalai.
Biligirirangna Hills or BR Hills, named after Biligiri Rangnath Swami Temple, is 102 km from Mysore and 48 km from Chamraja Nagore. Tourists from all over country gather here for the chariot-festival in January and April.
All over the Mandar district the Hoysal era temples are scattered.
The Cheluvaraya-Swami Temple at Melcote is from the 12th century. It is 30 km to the north of Mysore and is famous for its Bhairamude festival during March-April.
On the bank of the lake Thirumalasagar, several exhibits of the Hoysal era can be seen.
To the north of Melcote, the Soumya Keshab Temple of the 12th century is located at Nagamangalaya.
There are many temples from the 13th century to the west. The amazing image of Shiva having 16 hands and in the pose of Tandava dance can also be seen
The Hoysala style Mallikarjun Temple is located at Basaralu (Sadar district) which is 25 km to the north of Mandar.
At Bylakuppe which is 80 km to the west of Mysore, the Tibetan refugee colony, the Rubguelling, meaning good progress place, a colony of 15 villages, is also worth visiting. You can also see two monasteries and a carpet factory here where handicrafts are on sale.
