Nainital is the administrative and famous district of Uttarakhand. It is also known as Lake District of Uttarakhand. Nainital district is situated in the average of altitude of 1938 meters. It lies in north with Almora district, from west lies with Pauri Garhwal, from east lies with Champawat and from south it lies with Udham Singh Nagar. It is located between 80º 14' and 78º 80' east longitude and 29º 00' and 29º 05' north latitude. Nainital town, Haldwani, Kaladhungi, Ramnagar, Bhowali, Ramgarh, Mukteshwar, Bhimtal, Sattal and Naukuchiatal are the famous places of Nainital district. The main river of the Nainital district is Kosi followed from the western side.

Nainital has several significant mythological references as one of the 51Shakti Peeth of India. In British time Nainital was the famous hill station of India. In 3rd October 1850, Nainital Municipal Board was constituted. In 1862 Nainital became the summer capital.
