Uttarakhand holds the crown of the premier institute where a man is converted into gentleman cadet and finally driven into the pride of India as an officer. It was 1st October 1932 when the first course of 40 Gentlemen Cadets under Brigadier L.P. Collins got started. The passed out officers namely Sam Manekshaw, Smith Dun and Mohd Musa became Chiefs of the armies of the countries India, Burma and Pakistan respectively. It is known to everybody that the products of IMA are the gems and they can do the best in order to raise this country. The name of the course was Pioneers and from then onwards it has given the officers who can't be expressed in words.


When we talk about its origin/establishment, it was earlier in the Railway College at Dehradun; it consisted of good buildings and extensive campus area; which was really great for an institute like this where a person is refined to its maximum. This place has given a great initiation to the up-liftment of the Academy. Chetwode Building is the name given to IMA building in Dehradun after Field Marshal Sir Philip Chetwode. He was Commander-in-Chief of India at that time. This famous/great institute is situated at eight kilometers on Dehradu-Chakrata road.


Due to the location of the academy two regiments are named as Garhwal Rifles and Kumaon Regiment which fruits into young soldiers with full vigor and bravery. For the tourist point of view it possesses many places of interest like Museum, War Memorial, Library, Shooting demonstration room and many more. it also has beautiful Golf Course which adds much more to it.

2. Graduate Direct Entry Scheme.
3. Technical Graduate Entry Scheme for Engineering graduates.
4. UES Entry for Final and Pre final Engineering graduates.
5. 10+2 PCM (Tech) Entry.
