GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT IIT ROORKEE
The INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY was established in 1847.This IIT was located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand INDIA. The chairman of IIT Roorkee was ANALJIT SINGH and the Director of the IIT Roorkee was Mr.Banerji, the deputy director of the IIT roorkee was H.K Verma.
The IIT Roorkee having academic staff of 342 members' and the administrative staff of 1220 member's. There are 4137 students studied in IIT Roorkee.
The campus was situated in the urban area. The IIT Roorkee has 18 academic departments covering Engineering, applied sciences, humanities, social sciences and management programs.
In 1854 the IIT Roorkee was renamed as THOMSON COLLEGE OF CIVIL ENGINEERING in the honor of its founder, Sir JAMES THOMSON. He was a lieutenant governor in 1843-1853.
The first INDIAN who get pass out through the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee was named as RAI BAHADUR KANAHAIYA LAL in 1852.
In the IIT Roorkee the upper subordinate class was given to the European and the Lower subordinate class given to the Indians. The JAWAHAR LAL NEHRU was the first Prime Minister of India presented the charter in NOV. 1949.
Between the years of 1934-1943 the Army officers of the Indian Army Corps of Engineering come there to receive the training at the THOMSON COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING .At that time there was also a School of Military Engineering (S.M.E) established their but to receive the technical training all the Army officers came to the Thomson College of Engineering.
On 21st September 2001, the Government of India declared the Thomson college of Engineering the Nation's seventh "Indian Institute Of technology ".The Ordinance which is passed by the Government of India was converted into an act by the parliament to make an "Institute Of National Importance". The courses included the many undergraduate and postgraduate courses which were done by all the students came there to study. They also included the courses like Doctorates.UNDERGRADUATE COURSES
In Indian Institute Of Technology Roorkee many courses were held .For the Undergraduate courses the candidate`s who came there for higher studies must have passed the higher secondary examination from any recognized central or state board to get eligible for taking admission in the IIT Roorkee.

In B.Tech they are having many branches like B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, B.Tech in Electronics and Computer Engineering, B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering, and also the Biotechnology.

In IIT Roorkee have many Postgraduates courses .For doing the Postgraduate courses in the IIT Roorkee the candidate must have done his or her B.Tech or BE from any recognized university or Institution .The IIT Roorkee having the following postgraduate courses .
MSC: - In IIT Roorkee the postgraduate courses MSC can be done in various fields like in Chemistry and Mathematics.
M.Tech:- In IIT Roorkee the courses of M.Tech can be done in the various fields like in the Chemical Engineering, in the Civil Engineering, in the Manufacturing Engineering and in the Water Resources and Management.
The other post graduated courses like MBA, MCA.
In the Post graduate course like in MSc the candidate must have done the graduation and In MCA the candidate must have done undergraduate courses in any relevant field from any recognized Institution.DOCTORATES COURSES :-
The IIT Roorkee also offers the courses in the field of doctorates .To get admit in the field of doctorate the candidates must have completed their Bachelor or Master's degree with the field of technology .The college have the courses in Doctorate are PhD.ADMISSION PROCEDURE OF IIT ROORKEE
The admission procedure in the Indian Institute of Technology for the different courses for the under graduated courses and the Post graduated courses and the following Doctorates courses.
UNDERGRADUATED COURSES
For the admission in the Undergraduate courses is only done on the basis of the entrance exam that is Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
POSTGRADUATED COURSES
For the admission in the post graduated courses the candidate must have valid gate score and the other course in the postgraduate courses like in MSC the admission is done on the basis of Joint Admission Test .For the MCA the candidates also have to give the Joint Admission Test .And for the MBA there is a written test, group discussion and interview was done between the candidates for the admission in the post graduate courses in MBA.
DOCTORATES COURSES For the Doctorate courses of IIT Roorkee there is an Enter Examination is held for the admission in the PhD.RESEARCH ACTIVITES DONE IN IIT ROORKEE
The research activities done in the Indian Institute of Technology they all are conducted by either the departmental or under the central office of SRIC that is Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy. Many research was done in the IIT Rookee which also get awarded by the departments of the Governments of India and by the several ministers also get awarded by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (India), and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and the others. The Indian Institute Of Technology was situated in urban area the whole campus of IIT Roorkee was placed in the area of 25 acres that was located in the Saharanpur that are having the courses like polymers science ,process engineering and the paper technology .the main IIT campus was having the total area of 356 acres .
The whole IIT campus was placed in good environment which was good enough to study having the great environment around it.
They are having the great campus having all workshops, computer labs, well equipped labs with all facilities high internet connectivity and the class rooms, there were a good facility of hostel provided in the campus there are separates hostels for girls and boys.
The IIT Campus has the good cafeteria for enjoy the snacks well college buses for their students.
