GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE ROORKEE
Roorkee was the city comes under the Uttarakhand .The city has a great story or we can say the great history for her development .Actually the Roorkee was the capital of a Moghul mahal during the ancient time in the time of Akbar. In 18th century the Roorkee was came under the Landhaura state, until the death of its Bargujar king. Then after that the Roorkee was become the part of the British East India Company general.
The city Roorkee was a small village before 1840.But the Roorkee was develop due to the Upper Ganga canal and the due to the university that is “INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY “ this was also named as IIT Roorkee in which the class get started from 1985.In this year the training was given to the local youth for making the Upper Ganga canal so they give them the training of civil Engineering .At first the “INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY “ was also known as the “Thomason College of Civil Engineering". The college later on named as the University of Roorkee in the year of 1949.And also on September 21.2001 the Thomason College of Civil Engineering through the act of India parliament, it was become the" Indian Institute of Technology".
The India's first canal was made or constructed over the Solani River, near Roorkee that was also a part of Ganga River. The district of Roorkee was Haridwar .The population of Roorkee was 252784 .The elevation of the Roorkee was 268 meters (879 ft).
The city Roorkee was at a distance of 172 km from the New Delhi .The city Roorkee was located on the banks of the river Ganga canal on the National Highway between Delhi and Dehradun .The city Roorkee was also known as Roorkee cantonment .
