The Maharashtra Cricket Association has now a venue for International Cricket Matches in the City of Pune. It is located in the beautiful surroundings of Pune city near Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The IPL team Pune Warriors India will now get a home crowd support which will help boost their moral during the 5th season of IPL 2012.
As the IPL 5th Season is all set to begin on 4th of April; the Pune Warriors India team will now own a Home Ground and also the support of their Home audience. The Pune Warriors India team will be doing practice and preparation on their home ground which is named as Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium. It is said that this stadium will also be the Headquarters of Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA). Hence, the stadium can also be named as MCA Pune International Cricket Centre. It can serve seating arrangement for 55,000 audiences. The stadium was necessary for organizing international cricket matches and also to provide cricket fans an opportunity to watch live matches of the home team Pune Warriors India. The stadium is being built by Hopkins Architects of London and also the Anglo-Indian Sports Turf Consultants (ISTeC) were appointed to build latest technology turf which could match to the International Standards. The Hopkins Architects are well known for their work at London's Lord's Oval Stadium and Hampshire Country Cricketing ground costructions. Also they have constructed National Tennis Centre which was completed on Feb 2007 in Roehampton. The striking feature of Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium is that it has a terrace view for the spectators. Hence, the spectators can see beautiful surroundings around the stadium. There are four such terrace stands built for spectators and it helps to allow proper lighting in the stadium during the day and in the night. On these terraces there are seating arrangements for spectators, hospitality boxes and member's pavilion and also there are facilities incorporated for press persons and broadcasting purposes. In this way the stadium is full of beauty and state-of-the-art construction which gives a picturesque venue for all the cricket fans.
The estimated cost for construction of Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium is said to be about Rupees 300 Crores (i.e. US $ 59.85 Million). The area of this stadium is about 125,000 square meters. The Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium will constitute of a main 15 wicket match ground. For practice and smaller matches it has adjacent practice grounds with nets facility. The squash and badminton courts are incorporated in the stadium and also there is a swimming pool, restaurants, bars and Spa facilities. The number of corporate hospitality boxes is near about 80. In this state-of-the-art venue there is also an Indoor Cricket Academy which has a facility for residential accommodation and various training schemes for younger generation. At last there is a parking facility for about 10,000 two wheelers and 4,000 cars around the premises of the Stadium.
